Something is wrong with her.

Why would a first class student with a lot of prospects resort to begging. She can easily secure a full paid scholarship with her results. Get jobs in some serious companies.

I am afraid that book knowledge is not enough. You need some sense too.

Buekor Nyornebari Grace, a first class graduate of Applied and Environmental Biology (Microbiology Option) at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, UST has cried out to the Governor of the state, Nyesom Wike to come to her aid in securing employment at the University.

The 2016 first class graduate who is also an indigene of the state graduated with a CGPA of 4.95 and is supposed to work as an assistant lecturer based on her status as first class graduates before her were usually retained but Grace's case seems to be peculiar as she is not been that lucky.

According to Jonathan Oyim, a colleague of her at UST, she has been knocking on doors of opportunities but these are not opening since their convocation on 1st April 2017.

Below are her transcript:

"On the day of the convocation, when the governor came, he didn't make any pronouncement because there was embargo on recruitment in Rivers State" Jonathan said.

"That convocation produced 5 first class students in the full school of which 3 are non Rivers indigenes while only 2 are Rivers and she was the best graduating student for the year" he continued.

"During service, she started making moves on how the process of retaining will be but she was told to hold on due to the embargo that was on and she should pray that the governor uplifts it so the process can commence" Jonathan concluded.

It would be recalled that Buekor Nyornebari Grace was among the 7 students awarded in 2014 with a laptop for their academic excellence after her Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at 100-Level was 5.00 in 100 level scoring As all through.

Currently, Grace is teaching in a primary school and earning ₦18000.

Wike should lift the embargo and allow bright minds join the academic environment with immediate effect.

I don't know why we celebrate mediocrity in this nation self

Grace too has her faults....she has limited her horizon. From NYSC she was fixated on coming "home'. She would have applied for scholarships and other jobs. PWC will gladly give her a chance. mentality also matters

That school that decided to pay a first class graduate N18k needs to be closed down.

More seriously why didn't she just apply for some scholarships and proceed for her masters and doctorate degrees.

This case is not peculiar I know of a first class product a year my senior when I was in the university who has turned a junky because of frustration.

She's supposed to be retained as a Graduate Assistant, not Assistant Lecturer as shown in the original post. In a system where things work, she shouldn't have to even beg for this. It should be a norm. With this result, she can easily get funding for a Masters or even direct PhD in USA or Canada.
If she applied for masters abroad, she would get full scholarship and monthly stipends ranging from 700euros to 1200euros #FACT

She thought her grade will automatically make her a goddess in the land of the living, unfortunately for her Nigeria is a consuming state, we produce just about 10% of what we consume. Just take a good look at yourself and your environment... Everything you see was imported!

We dont produce jack! Even the multinationals company most people crave and aspire to work for are own by foreigners.

The day i knew i was never gonna be poor was when i ask myself why am going to school, paying huge sums to lecturer and the entire school as a whole. The answer was simple, to make money! Am not a first-class student, in fact I never wanted it, it wasn't my aim of going to school in the first place, it draws to much unnecessary attention.

A best graduating student is earning minimum wage?? shocked shocked while i'm sure some with pass Or thirdclass in her set are already making millions...

Is Education still the key to Success Or is this a lack of foresight on her part?

Education is the key to success but there is a difference between education and going to school.

If she was properly educated, she could have used her knowledge to secure better placements instead of begging for a lecturing job that won't pay her more than 140k as a graduate assistant.
