cheaper to take it thru land borders and smuggling. Clearing cost in benin rep is cheap and faster. Frozen chicken and some other stuffs are contraband so it cant come thru apapa

Are you OK with the smuggling of contraband stuffs into the country?

Closing the borders is a temporary solution to a permanent problem. If the customs cannot man the borders, why are they still employed? The person saying that the closure has increased local production is a chronic liar. The border has only been closed for a few weeks, how many things have we produced since then? When Dangote commended the border closure, I kind of sensed that something was amiss. It has everything to do with protecting vested interests and not for the good of the common man. Equip the customs, re-open the borders. The officers should be trained on the dangers of taking bribes and smuggling and let the ECOWAS agreement stand. We can only grow better by doing business with our neighbors. The Nigerian government should instead pressure the neighboring countries to ban the importation of goods that can be produced locally. It should be step by step. We are the giants here!!

The importers should use Nigeria port instead of taking Benin route.

banned importation of goods, cost of things are high, closed border cost of things e.g rice is now sold for #120 per cup. When will this country be freed from bad, illiterate and incompetent politicians self?

rice, tomato paste, veg oil, palm oil, frozen chicken fish and turkey, flour, sugar,.
And do you think we can't supply this independently?
If No, why are we getting it all through the neighbouring countries?
If yes, is it all we can't supply?

Anything that we cannot produce in Nigeria should not be used in Nigeria. If we cannot produce cars, then we should not use cars. If we cannot produce rice, then we should not eat rice.

we can at higher cost. Benin has cheaper clearing cost, loans are also cheaper in countries those items come from. If i set up a poultry in turkey or china i can get loan of 2% . In nigeria its 23%. No light so i usw gen. We are consuming frozen chicken from china and europe cos its cheaper . The government needs to address the real issues. Why is it cheaper to buy cars from cotonou than apapa. Government should address these issues

They're not enemies of the state. The border closure was done in the Southern part of this country. Just go to the North and make an enquiry; you'll discover that Northern borders were not closed.

Sensible people are talking Gabriel suswam is putting mouth also.. Such a shame.

If Benue people could vote that man back into senate, then they really deserve fulani attacks undecided
But Suswam was better as a governor than Ortom. Besides, Fulani herders raided Benue more in Ortom's administration than in Suswam's. Is it not the same thing? You joined hands to bring Buhari back. Even though Suswam is not good, Buhari is worse. In fact, our present crop of politicians is devilish.

The question they should ask Buhari is; how long do you want to close the border?

Note that ''border'' here means legal entrance. There're more illegal entrances into Nigeria than there are legal entrances.

The people suffering now are petty traders and the poor who have other legitimate businesses across the border that has nothing to do with rice- the same people they claim to help. The rice importers are already on holiday, enjoying their money, while waiting for the situation to ease-off so that they'll continue business as usual.

As long as there's a need, there would be supply. All you can do is try to mitigate against it in a sane way not by closing border, which doesn't solve anything. Closing the border is not even a short term solution because there're hundreds of unmanned routes into Nigeria. Even boko haram is freely using those unmanned routes. You'll think their priority should be to stop boko haram using the illegal borders.
