Nigeria doesn't hang or execute anyone. We just put them in prison and keep feeding them with tax payers money . We 've more than 3000 deathrow inmates...we only release them when they are old and useless. My point is that governors should be signing death warrant to enable us save money ...we can't continue to feed criminals .

It's possible to have two sets of legal systems in a state. Whats unusual is hsving dual legal systems in same territory. In the USA Texas uses common law while Lousiana uses civil law. Whats unusual in my opinion is how sharia and common law are used in same territory.

My 'unlearned' friend, argument before the act is not sufficient to show that the act was not premeditated in Law. The incidence of the weapon is crucial. Was the knife already in their possession and do they have an acceptable explanation for being in possession of the knife before the act? Do they have something to benefit from the act? Is there proof that the knife actually caused the death? these are other relevant questions.

However, if they were actually charged and convicted for culpable homicide (manslaughter), then I wonder how the Judge could sentence them to death! (Naija Tinz)

To correct the impression the OP has casted....
Culpable homicide is the same thing as murder. It is called murder in the south and culpable homicide in the North. It's just a matter of nomenclature.
In all culpable homicide, somebody must have died as a result of the actions of the accused.
Some culpable homicide are punishable with death (murder) while others are not punishable with death (man slaughter).
In this circumstance, this is culpable homicide punishable with death under the penal code.
The judge was absolutely on track.

The Penal Code is not shari'a law.
It's an Act of the National Assembly.
Culpable homicide is punishable with death.

Did you read that it was in Zamfara? and the Presiding Judge Justice "Muktar Yushau," who is obviously a Muslim, these guys bring their Islam to the Logic of their condemnation, They are really less concerned for the Law referenced in your reaction. Fanaticism is the bane of their skewed logic and no lawyer will appeal their verdict. they carry religion into their trade even as "Lawyers" and Judges, You will remember that fanatical "Amasa Firdaus" and this one happened in Zamfara.
