You don't know your history. You call yourself igbo yet you don't know this basic historical fact about the land you now occupy belongs to ibibios.

You are the one that doesn't know your history well.

Your little history book is deceiving you.

The land currently occupied belongs to Igbos.

please stop tress passing into others territory most especially Igbo territory.

Nobody is occupying Ibibio land, Oga.

We know you hate them, the reason is because they are different, they have ibibio ancestry.

Anybody putting SS tribes in biafra is on a long thing.

I don't and will never, ever support such.

I can't be free from Nigeria by creating another Nigeria...No.

SS tribes I repeat are better off in Nigeria and the other way Igbos are better off in Biafra.

So your argument is useless.

Let your mum remain in Akwa-Ibom or Golf of Guinea, is not our business.

Our business of today is that biafra must be strictly and Igbo affair and Igbo homogeneous country..No other tribe will be part of such.

I can't run away from Nigeria and form another Nigeria... Anybody dragging any SS tribes to biafra is a fool and numb head....

Just seeing this thread for first time today.
Re: Aba, Ngwa, Abiriba And Arochuwkwu Are Ancestral Ibibio Land. by pazienza(m): 9:35pm On Jan 05, 2020
Atouke:
I have seen a lot impostors and ethnic warriors who want to promote their crude ethnic tendencies spew a lot of vitriol on this forum about Igbos and Ibibios, of late lots of threads have been created to foster the hate and bigotry.

To set the record straight, No right thinking Igbo born will there claim any territory in Akwa ibom they know it does not exist. There is no Local government area in akwa ibom that is igbo speaking or has igbo speakers. What we have in akwa ibom are border villages that may harbor speakers of both languages as is common in border villages all over the world. But in those villages , being small towns everyone knows who is who, and where each family comes from, where they are land disputes they await border delineation by the Federal government to clear it up. But everyone knows their tribe and where their families belong.

On the contrary, precolonialism the igbo wars of aggression claimed ancient ibibio land.
During the tribal wars, igbos occupied towns like Aba, Ngwa land , Aro and others which are Ancestral ibibio land and some ibibios left their occupied inland ancestral homes and migrated downward towards the Atlantic to the present day Akwa ibom state.

Aba = hole or space in ibibio language. ( in ancient ibibio belief, that's the hole the ibibios believed the spirit of their ancestors would come out from, the original name was Aba Ekpo meaning spirits hole in ibibio).
Abiriba = It takes two to play. Original name Ebere iba referring to the traditional ibibio sword fight called Ukwa, usually displayed by Ekpo masquerades.
Ngwa= feather in ibibio language.
Aro= thing in ibibio. the igbos after their wars of aggression added chukwu to aro making Arochuwkwu. The original name of Arochuwkwu was AroAbasi meaning Gods thing in ibibio.a sacred land of the ibibios set aside for their God.

If you go to those cities you will find indigenous ibibio people in those lands even though some of the have acclimated to igbo language but almost 70% of the igbos in those areas speak ibibio and are ibibios.
Even those who speak igbo know their history, that their ancestors are ibibios.

These tribes are hated by igbos in igboland because they always accuse them of being ibibios or not being igbo enough. That's a fact.

The ibibios historical have no quarrel with igbos because deep down we know a lot of them especially the ones I have mentioned In This writeup are our kin who choose to stay in their ancestral homes instead of migrating with their ancestors after the igbo war of aggression.

If you go to Arochuwkwu today you will see ibom hall that houses otherwise called the long juju house. They long juju are ibibio gods which are still worshiped in Arochuwkwu today. People there bear ibibio names like Uko, udo, etc.
They play Ekpe, Ekpo masquerades and can read chant and write Nsibidi. And share cultural ties and similarities with their ibibio ancestors. These culture is a remnant of their ibibio ancestry and heritage.

The igbos are occupying ancestral ibibio land and majority in those ancestral ibibio land are our own kith and kin.

The Aba in Aba Ngwa does not have the same meaning as that in Ibibio. We have Aba all over Igboland.
Aba keleke
Aba Agana
Aba Omege
Aba Cha

Etc. Are they all Ibibio lands as well. What you did here is spread of falsehood. I can as well claim that Uyo is Igboland. We have streams all over Igboland called "Uyo". Does it make sense to you?

Abiriba means "Ebiri aba" which in Igbo means "If you live, you will become wealthy".
It was never Ibibio land. It was Igboland all from the very beginning as you can see from the name.

Ngwa means Ngwa Ngwa, which in English translates to Fast Fast! It's Igbo. The name came about when a group of Igbo people migrating from Imo to Abia suddenly became separated by a river. While one group was quick to cross the River before the River became impasseable, the other were busy roasting yam and by the time they were done roasting yam, they could no longer cross the River as the volume had grown.
Those who crossed the River (Imo) were called Ndi Ngwa Ngwa, meaning people who were fast, while those who were cut off by the river because they were roasting yam were called "Ndi Ohuhu ji".
In time, Ngwa Ngwa became Ngwa, while Ohuhu Ji became "Ohuhu".
This is the story of Ngwa. It has nothing to do with your Ibibio concocted stories.

Arochukwu has always been Igbo. They call themselves Okeigbo, meaning Great Igbo.
Yes, Arochukwu was established in a previously Ibibio land, but it was not straight forward. It was achieved by a Union between the Igbos, be Akpa (From Cross River) and some indigenous Ibibio people.
The Ibibio and Akpa elements were very minor and were quickly assimilated by the overwhelmingly Igbo population there.
Arochukwu means "God's spear". "Aro" means "spear" in Igbo. It has nothing to do with Ibibio.

No Igbo hate Ngwa or Arochukwu people, we are all Igbos, stop making things up.
Nsibidi belongs to Ejagham and not to Ibibios, you copied from Ejagham just like we did.

Ndiigbo who are neighbors to Ibibio borrowed some Ibibio culturally practices, such as Ekpo and Ekpe cults, it doesn't make them Ibibios, it's just what it is, they borrowed an aspect of your culture they feel is good.
Igbos close to Bini borrowed BIni cultural practices, Igbo close to Igala borrowed those of Igala.
But these were never one way traffic. Those Igbo neighbors including Ibibio also borrowed one or two things from Ndiigbo.

Other than Arochukwu, no Ibibio land is occupied by Igbos, but Efiks (Ibibio cousins) occupied and have now claimed parts of Igboland now in Odukpani LGA, and the Ibibios are still dragging parts of Ndoki land in Akirika.

Majority of those called igbos in the present day igboland especially in the city and towns I have mentioned have ibibio ancestry.

The little square footage of land Ibo have you want to reduce it even further.

These lands you mentioned - Aba, Ngwa, Abiriba and Arochuckwu - are the axis of cannibalism.

Are you saying those cannibals were all along Ibibio people, and not Igbo?

This is huge awakening.

But it shouldn't surprise annybody though. Is this not the same game you Ibos play when you lay claim to other peoples ancestral land and claim it to be yours?

You are partially correct and partially wrong. I can agree to the part that we ibibios lost the war but one thing u don't know is that Efik, Annang and our related groups were also in aro chukwu before we lost the war, the one's that stayed behind were the priest of the long juju and their relations to continue the practise, both sides suffered casualties and captured slaves, because u see some aros bearing ibibio names doesn't mean it's only ibos that captured ibibios, there are ibibios in the hinterland Akwa Ibom fsr away from aro that have okoro and other Igbo names in their full name, we can then conclude that they are descendants of Igbo slaves we captured during the war since that's what you want to boast about. About origin yes we all migrated from somewhere down here but a long time ago, don't your Igbo brethren claim to have migrated or descended from isreal or Nubia down here, so why make it seem like it's a taboo?

The way I see it from what he or she is saying is that the name Aba originated from Akwaibom so any town, village/family in South East bearing such name Aba or a name that has Aba attached to it, that the people there and the land are historical Link to Akwaibom.

While it is quite true that some border Igbo communities were formerly "Ibibioid", some of what you wrote is just plain ridiculous.

Why on earth would an ethnic grouping be called feather? You think because a word means something in YOUR language it must mean that same thing everywhere you see it?

Can I claim that Eko (Lagos) is Igbo because Eko means bellows in Igbo? Can I claim that Ikenne in Ogun state is Igbo because Ikenne means strength of the mother in Igbo?

Aba is a name that is found widely dispersed in Igboland in compound forms: Abateete (Aba Teghete, i.e., Nine Abas), Abakiliki (Aba Nkaleke, i.e., the Aba belonging to the Nkaleke clan) etc, and seems to be an archaic word that denotes settlement.

And by the way, YES, there are a few Igbo villages belonging to the Ndoki sub-ethnic group in Akwa Ibom State.
