But
1.Even with sensitization, so long as you don't have a critical mass of people and coprorate bodies interested in the sport (not just for funding purposes...but to provide things like fans, athletes and coaches)..gymnastics won't take off in Nigeria.

2.Plus, it costs money to get sufficient equipment for gymnastics (things like pommel horse, vaults, rings, bars, etc)...which many schools and colleges cannot afford.

P.S We do have a Gymnastics federation in Nigeria. Has been around since at least the 1980's.

It actually takes a long-term plan to nurture a generation of professional athletes to world-class, Olympic standard. For gymnastics you also need a lot of equipment that needs constant maintenance and upgrading. Plus, you have to start training when youre about 8 years old, for several hours a week, to build the type of physique and flexibility needed. Not to mention the kind of physiotherapists, nutritionists and sport-specialised doctors you would need to employ. Millions of naira need to be poured in per child, every year

To start off with, we would be better off with sports that require less equipment, like running/football before we start complicating things. And we need to build a national interest and culture around sports

The budget doesnt even care for arts/sports right now. This is the same reason we dont have world class ballet dancers (though our traditional dance more than makes up for that)

You said its a "useless sport"... youre conflating 2 things here...your problem is with the way the sport is received by the general population and not the sport itself

By the way being an athlete is a full-time job where you wake up in the morning and train every day for years...its not the sports fault if nigerians dont understand its value

I know that exactly. There's no billionaire graduate person.
I lived overseas for a short while. I see how their system works. They have government grants.
All those, my father died, I didn't go to school... I was depressed and started playing basketball, council house people.
They first depend on government aid to stay alive. Then go into sports to chase their depression away.
Some then get sponsors.... and maybe their life becomes better.
To them, i wish the best.
But for how many years can a human being continue sumersaulting? One must get a good job and settle down.

2.Where is the interest? If people are not coming to watch a certain sport, money, funding and even the number of people interested in taking up that sport falls drastically. Here in Nigeria, when people talk of sport...it is football, and maybe track athletics.

Add the fact that many Nigerian parents don't want their children to be professional athletes in any sport , talkless of gymnastics.
