Abiy Ahmed is a pentecostal evangelical christian. His surname is what makes people think he is a muslim. His father was an Oromo muslim and his mother an Amhara Tewahedo Orthodox christian.

Oromos who used to be predominantly muslim have seen many of their people converting to christianity over the decades.
A muslim can never rule Ethiopia. It is impossible. The orthodox church of Ethiopia will never allow it. Infact this is the first pentecostal leader. It is like a miracle.
The Amharas & Tigrays will never allow a muslim rule Ethiopia. It will be an insult to their history of fighting to resist islam for centuries.

Infact, an Oromo man would never have ruled ET if not that this was done as a gesture from the Amharas/Tigrays (northern Ethiopians) against Oromo nationalism and Oromo seccession.
Oromos have been fighting to seccede from ET due to domination of the christian Habeshas (Amharas & Tigrays).

Ethiopia is the opposite of Nigeria. Over there, the christian dominated north dominates and suppresses the half muslim half christian south

The Amhara/Tigra looks like the fulani nomad and both are semitic...Rwanda it is same with the Tutsi in power looking like the fulani nomad...the pattern is similar in Africa...what made the Amhara Christians is that the region has one of the oldest christian community in the world and predates Islam ....the Ethiopian Orthodox Church

You have a point. But all Ethiopians except the very dark skinned and uncivilized nilotic tribes of Gambela & Benishangul have semitic blood. However, they are all cushitics or cushites by origin.
The northern Ethiopians or Habeshas (Tigrays & Amharas) had a greater mix of the semitic blood hence even their native language became mostly semitic.
Somalis, Oromos & the people of Southern Nationalities region still have semitic blood too, but the semitic influence was less among them hence their native languages remained cushitic.

There are Habeshas who look darker and more African as well as there are somalis & Oromos who look more white & semitic. However on average like you said, Habeshas look more semitic.
Tigrays are the most semitic. It is very common to see Tigrays who can pass for Arabs.

The Habeshas are more powerful in ET today not because of their greater semitic blood or christianity but rather because they had the most recent powerful empire who conquered and massacred others in ET into submission including the Oromos.
Centuries before that, the Oromos were in charge during the period of Oromo expansion when the Oromos massacred, conquered and absorbed the other tribes.
