From the BBC exposure on Sex-For-Marks escapades in our Ivory Towers to this-we are now back to the days of investigative journalism.

So unfortunate the civil police is endemically corrupt but of course it's the aftermath of system failure.Thunder fire anyone or police that says "The Police is your friend."
The Cable and PT have regularly carried out investigative reports, just that the BBC has far more "weight" and clout,so theirs will always be more "weighty",attention grabbing and fast to elicit action from those involved.

The fact is that all the police hierarchy knows this. Some years ago NBS published a statistics that shows Nigerians pay billions of naira to police as bribe every year.

The police authority hastily jumped out to debunk it. That institution like every other in Nigeria is decayed.

Sadly FG doesnt provide anything to DPOs so they get creative in funding themselves

twice did my estate and neighboring estates purchase engines to police hilux vans and once did we buy a tokunbo golf 3 car, billing each landlord as high as 5000,. still this effort went to waste when FG didnt function

Its a shame, we are all contributory to these decays, in the system. We only protest and call for revolution against leaders that are not from our religion or tribe. Where was sowere when Obj was dictating against Nigerian constitution ?.

I once went to a police station to report a missing breadwinner of a family with the wife standing by my side. I was so surprised when one of the female policewomen was asking me to drop money to record the identity of the missing person. I left in annoyance and vowed not to go to any police station for any reason in my life again. It could be so frustrating and painful to see people who are being paid with our tax money demanding for bribes to discharge their official duties.

its one of the reasons government don't fund the police. because all the stations are making money from bribes and yet they can not maintain the police vans or station's.

they drink and womanize and while the female police are prostitutes.

The average police officer is a vampire who feeds directly off the misery of people who come to him

month's ago, after I was robbed I went to a police station with a deep machete cut to my arm and my back, bleeding seriously. The first police station said go to area command, at area command, I met the daughter of Lucifer herself, ma I was robbed, she said bring the papers of your vehicle before I lodge your complain. I have my plate number and vehicle number off hand, the woman said no bring original papers tomorrow and not today, if I bring it today she will not make any entry. still bleeding I left Long story short, I paid #7000 before any entry was made. funny part officer said I should go and pray for my vehicle to be found. since then NPF are my worst nightmare.

LegendHer0:
To solve this menace the government needs to be tactical and deploy the stick approach.

You cannot treat this menace by arresting policemen on the road because the more you arrest, a whole lot of others are perpetrating the arrest of innocent citizens in other places.

The biggest culprit in all these are the DPOs, they are most times partner in crime to the other officers and they always set target (money) for the officers to make daily.

To control this, the government should start querying and sacking DPOs whose unit is engaged in this nefarious practices. If there is complain against some police formation, the DPO should be queried alongside the other officers and eventually sacked together if found culpable.

If the DPOs are gone after by the government, then they can control the units under them even without government interference because they wouldn’t want to lose their jobs. By this way we can have an effective monitoring system that can cure this police menace to some extent.

You can’t change the police mindset by arresting erring officers alone, because if you arrest 50 police today, 2000 others are arresting innocent citizens in other locations.
Not just the DPOs but the state commissioner should be fired immediately any shit that stains the police comes up. Once it happens 3 times they will know what's up.

Police is never your friend, they are Federal agbero that is using Arms to harass innocent citizens.

pray you don't have an issue that is related to the police or station, then you will realised that the OlopA's are not your friend.

Before the police hide to extort N50 from the motorist but now they will show it in clear view that the money will be collected from you and there's nothing you can do, they even have change when you give them N1000.

The BBC should extend there investigation to the Nigeria police system, those guys are thieves and crook.

Police=agbero..
On once gave a policeman 500 bucks cos he was polite, he asked how much change I want. The shit shocked me.

I told him.to share it with his guys

I’m telling you. If the government can go for the head of the police and fire like 5 different one, the normal officers will be shivering and they will dare not even take chances with bribe.

To rule people they have to fear you, the government needs to make the police fear authorities. Sack their head multiple times then see the little cadre fall into order.

Meanwhile bail is meant to be free?
The depth of rot in the whole system called Nigeria is something else. Corruption in every sector. We can't make any progress like this.
It's pathetic. Is it the policeman that will always want to extort you for money while driving that will now allow you to go for free from detention?

Their corruption is brazen and shameless.
