Chinua Achebe's books are studied in secondary schools, whilst Wole Soyinka's books, even by nature of their complexity, are studied as Ph.D treatise.

Only Igbos have problems with the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature. Go to the Nobel website and you would see that even though the Nobel Prize has generated controversies with some writers that they gave the Prizes to, no one had a problem with Soyinka getting it in 1986.

The Nobel Prize in Literature had been Eurocentric until 1986, and in 1986, the Committee decided to open up the prize to writers from other continents. The Committee unanimously agreed on Soyinka. I don't find him funny, but he is respected solely on the fact that stand-up comedy in Nigeria owe him a lot.
