1. Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State expresses sympathy to the families of a woman and a child burnt to death this afternoon in a fire accident in Onitsha. The fire also razed structures, including shops, on Upper Iweka Road, Onitsha and at Ochanja market.
2. The accident occurred when a tanker laden with petroleum products, fell into a ditch and spilled its contents. A ball of fire resulted from this incident and quickly spread.
3. Men of the Anambra State Fire Service arrived on the scene in good time with their new equipment. For some reason, however, they were unable to quench the inferno. The angry mob on the scene prevented other fire trucks, including one from neighbouring Asaba in Delta State, from getting to the scene.
4. Governor Obiano regrets this unfortunate situation and has directed owners of properties affected by the tragic accident, including shop owners to report at Ekwueme Square on Friday October 18, 2019 to see how the Anambra State Government can assist them.
5. A panel will be set up immediately to determine the cause of the accident, why the firemen could not put out the fire and how the condition of the victims can be ameliorated.
6. Governor Obiano and his family pray for the repose of the souls of the woman and child who died in the accident. The Anambra State Government will assist their families during their burial.
7. Government calls on Citizens especially those directly affected to remain calm in the face of this disaster as it will do all within its powers to ameliorate the suffering of those involved.

Gov Willie Obiano through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment has Commiserated With Victims of Onitsha Inferno.

He also promised to set up a panel to determine the cause of the accident, why the firemen could not put out the fire and how the condition of the victims can be ameliorated

You have billions of naira to buy cars for police,but no money to buy fire service truck/centre.The governor is not doing any tangible thing in Anambra State.He couldn't even strengthen local vigilante that was empowered by Peter obi.We are watching....

Two people's negligence caused this
1)The person in charge of Okpoko fire station
and
2)The one in charge of Main Market fire station.

They should be sued to court and punished adequately for this preventable mayhem.



This same thing happens in ministries and no body holds them accountable.

I will give you the reasons why he is to be held responsible for this mishap.

Number one; who appointed the fire service chiefs? I won't be surprised if its his relation that is a farmer in Aguleri that he made the fire service chiefs which is what is predominant in Nigeria!

Number 2; the fire that gutted the filling station near DMGS round about that nearly destroyed Kamo Plaza and there was no fire service in sight, why did Obiano not learn his lessons and fire the fire service chiefs?

No 3; the fire that nearly burnt down a house in Fegge and people were using pure water to quench it because of no fire service in sight; who are we to blame for that one two? Fire service chiefs?

The fact remains that Obiano is more useless than Mbadinuju.

The whole of Onitsha from Bata junction down to Awka road is now an Eyesore.

Peter Obi had Anambra at heart. Peter did inner city roads. Same with Chris Ngige. These are the two best governors Anambra state had ever had. Honestly, I miss Chris ngige because Obiano is total IDIOT. Obiano makes Rochas look like a saint.

The rice actually being touted as Anambra rice is actually rice from Coscharis rice farms.

I don't really blame Obiano. Shey Anambra people called him alert Governor? Which useless alert? Are other states not getting alerts too? Is it his money? Is it not Anambra money that was kept in his care?

Anambra people should do fast and remove that worthless party called APGA from Anambra. Any other person I hear shouting nkea bu nke anyi, ewelum okpo kulie di bagger onu.

Stop taking thrash young man because this is a very sensitive topic. Yes during Peter Obi tenure, there were fires. But the difference between Obi and the current buffon you have in Agu Awka is the response time.

Under Peter Obi, fire service men were active and respond in 30 minutes which is good by Nigerian standard.

Under Obiano, 6 hours.... Fire service men are usually not arrived. Hope you are aware that the only fire service men that normally come are from Asaba. Nd this has been a recurrent thing?

As a man that lives in Onitsha, I will advise you to be careful of what you say thenceforth around Onitsha metropolis about Obiano because people will beat you to death given the chance. If you doubt me, go to Ochanja and spew this rubbish.

As for next elections, me and you know that APGA IS GONE FOREVER. ANYBODY THAT TRIES TO BRING OJUKWU PICTURES AGAIN WILL BE BURNT ALIVE. WILL YOU BET?

What is all these. I always respect you a lot and I believe you are bigger than this. please don't let us trade blames. we lost lives, we lost properties worth billions, people living in Onitsha do pay taxes. Honestly, the fact that we have fire stations that couldn't even respond to the situation is a big disgrace and let down. I lost a cousin too , and in such situation anywhere at all, the state government is usually blamed

Sorry dear, I sympathize with you and others that lost their love ones, may their souls rest in peace, had it been you went through my post yesterday I was disgust how Okpoko fire station didn't respond on time the distance is not far from incidents, Onitsha have two fire stations main market and Okpoko plus fire truck in building material Ogidi, I have monitored fire incident that happened in Onitsha although it was on Sunday, same truck fully loaded with Petroleum product, they called Okpoko station and they responded fast and averted the disaster, you can view the link

I was surprised they didn't respond on time on this one close to them, what's hurt me most some senseless beings especially from opposition parties are capitalizing on the incident just for political gain, imagine senseless thread one opened asking what happened to fire equipments acquired during Obi's tenure, that's what prompted me to asked how many fire incidents we recorded during his tenure, I'm sorry if I have offended you
