Following the appointments of six aides for the office of the first lady, the Peoples Democratic Party has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to explain how it will be funded.

In a statement released on Thursday, the party also asked Buhari to clarify the rationale behind the office despite his promise to scrap it.

The party also reacted to new directives issued to senior government officials by the president including slashing of their estacodes.

Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP spokesman, said while Buhari claims to reduce cost of governance, the presidency drains Nigeria’s valuable resources.

Ologbondiyan said: “While the PDP is still monitoring the implementation of directive to government functionaries on cost cut, the party tasks President Buhari to take the first step by immediately fulfilling his promise to reduce the Presidential fleet, as well as cut his over-bloated entourages and curtail the opulent lifestyle in the Presidency, which is daily flaunted before suffering and impoverished Nigerians.

“We invite Nigerians to note that the Buhari Presidency has proven to be extremely expensive and a major draining pipe for valuable resources, while millions of compatriots, who look up to government for solutions, wallow in hunger and acute poverty.

“The profligacy that permeates the Buhari Presidency had further manifested in the public fight between the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, and President Buhari’s nephews over issues of opulent accommodation in our presidential villa.”

The main opposition party also accused the president of failing to disclose the details of the presidency’s budget “despite demands by our party and other well-meaning groups in Nigeria.”

“The failure to make the details of the Presidency budget public places a huge burden on the Buhari Presidency, particularly in the face of allegations of budgetary corruption and financial sleaze,” it said.

“Unless the Presidency budget is made public for Nigerians to see, any directive on cost cut remains cosmetic.”

Simple. Aisha Buhari's office will be funded the same way Patience Jonathan's office was funded. The same way Turai Yar'adua's office was funded. The same way late Stella Obasanjo's was funded.

Now, you still got problem with that? Poor opposition move. Long way to go for Papa Deceive Pikins (PDP). undecided

Government of failed promises. The funny thing is that people are so afraid to speak against bad governance. The same government that promised to abolish the office of the First Lady is now appointing SAs and PAs to that same office. One day one day monkey go go market, he no go come back. The other day a big for nothing minister was just fooling himself that 30 Naira is enough for someone to feed. Na Ogun go kill that minister if he no apologise to Nigerians. Make this country divide self make northerners dey eat their 30 naira beans with pepper and mia kuka but for we southerners, na Afang soup, Edikaikong, Cow leg pepersoup, fresh fish, Banga soup, Onugbu and Oha soup, Ofe Nsala, Ewedu with bokoto, shaki, round about, abodi and others we deserve because our land flows with milk and honey.

Are they asking us?

PS:
But you know - Nigerians don't cease to amaze me, they choose pepper soup when they go to a restaurant and complain that it is pepperish...

Don't worry they will soon start taxing you to vote, keep complaining on online forums instead of checking yourself and asking "What have I done to make Nigeria a better place in my own small way?"

Very interesting question.
PDP has no moral standards to ask such a question but every sane Nigerian should have this question readily in his or her lips.
Buhari promised to cut cost of governance including "no office of firstlady" but he has been the worst spender so far.
I still wonder why everybody is suddenly patient and tolerant of Buhari's incompetence.
