Actually Nigeria power problem starts from lack of metering. You can imagine they have I think 3M customers - with meters - others don't have any meters (4M) - that in a country of nearly 40-50m households. You distribute power and only handful pay for it - leaving distro bankrupts - and bankrupt distro cannot pay the power producers - power producers cannot run or maintain the turbines - and you have a country with installed capacity of 12K MW unable to produce 3000MW for 6hrs every day. The solution is easy - put everyone on pre-paid meters - and Nigeria can start enjoying 24hrs power like any country does - including I suspect even Chad or Somalia.Once the money coming in regularly from customers - distros can invest in revamping their dying power networks after repaying huge debts - power suppliers can start running the turbines again - and Nigeria can rejoin the nation of human beings - and stop being a ZOO! But if you read what these Nigeria idiots are doing...it amazing..they keep throwing oil money on distros and power supplies...which runs outs and the problem persists. kikuyu2: |

Tanzania we know is one that has 3rd largest poorest people in Africa - after Nigeria and DRC. The Tanzania we know is one that HIGHLY INDEBTED COUNTRY(HIPC) and also LDC (Lower Income Country). The Tanzania we know is with highest MALNUTRITION in region. Tanzania we know - whatever indicator you pick - in East Africa - is only better than Burundi. The Tanzania we know is big puzzle - a country that has never had war or any conflict or even rumours of one - that has little corruption - has little tribalism - has twice Kenya land - most of it arable - has incredible natural resources (gold, diamond, natural gas, uranium) - has longer coastline - has so many island ---BUT REMAIN POVERTY STRICKEN like Burundi. At least Nigeria can explain away their issues - corruption, tribal & religious conflicts, military dictatorships - etc - but why is TANZANIA SO POOR? When we asked you - all we got was "governance"? The reality is Tanzanians are incredibly LAZY, JEALOUSY, ILLITERATE AND PRIMITIVE. This is the LEGACY OF CCM AND UJAMAA that continues to run Tanzania affairs and stifle it's growth. If you visit Tanzania or hear anecdotal evidence from those that have - you'll hear or see their legendary laziness. It may take them 30mins to serve you a cup of Tea.They just love gossiping. I don't think you'll find people that lazy in entire Africa continent. Jealousy is all over the biggest business is witchcraft and envy - owning wealth in Tanzania is loathed. The primitive belief in witchcraft and wizard is so endemic - it probably trumps religion. Don't start on illiteracy - 95% of Tanzanians kids who finish A-levels (12yrs of education) - CANNOT COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH. Just think about that...average Tanzanian cannot construct a sentence in English and that is official language of business & etc in Tanzania. KaziKazi having spend some time in South Africa - is undoubtedly their best English speaker. Imagine from high schools - they are taught all subjects bar Swahili in English - and you can guess their education outputs. If companies had their way - they would import professionals from Kenya, Uganda and etc. Kazikazi: |

I am dissapointed in both Ghana and Nigeria decision on this....what is the essence of ecowas then? what happens to the spirt of neighbouliness that is the watchword of ecowas unity. why given preference treatment to Ghana and little economy like benin and Niger are still blocked from accessing Nigeria? Nigeria-Benin border closure: Ghana secures temporary corridor Nigeria Ghana Ministers Nigeria's Foreign Minister in a hearty chat Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and Allan Kyerematen Ghana and Nigeria have agreed on the creation of a temporary corridor on Nigeria’s western border with Benin, where Ghanaian goods in transit from Benin, and vice versa, can pass to avoid collateral damage arising from the closure of Nigeria’s borders with Benin. The Ghana Government is also expected to provide further information on Ghanaian companies that do business in Nigeria, the goods and companies affected and those likely to be affected by the closure of the borders, as well as stranded trucks at the borders to enable Nigeria's officials to better identify the Ghanaian traders. The decisions were reached when the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms Shirley Ayokor Botchwey, and the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Alan Kyerematen, held talks with their Nigerian counterparts on the border closure in Abuja last Wednesday. While Ms Botchwey met with Nigeria's Foreign Minister, Mr Geoffrey Jideofor Kwusike Onyeama, Mr Kyerematen held discussions with the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment of Nigeria, Mr Otunba Niyi Adebayo. Abuja meetings A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday said the Abuja meetings were aimed at discussing further ways of providing a path towards resolving the challenges facing Ghanaian companies and traders following the closure of the Nigerian borders. Nigeria partially closed its borders with Benin in August this year to curb the spate of rice smuggling which Africa’s most populous country said was threatening its attempt to boost local production. Additionally, the move was aimed at stopping the movement of illicit weapons and other smuggled goods through the various entry points. The closure, however, has affected the movement of goods and services from the West African sub-region into Nigeria through that section of the country’s border. The Foreign Minister’s trip to Abuja was pursuant to ongoing efforts by the government of Ghana to ensure the safe passage of goods to Nigeria and the ECOWAS sub-region. Relations During the meeting, the Ghanaian Foreign Minister acknowledged the long-standing cordial relations and cooperation between Ghana and Nigeria. She also acknowledged the value of the combined strength of the two countries in working towards the prosperity of their citizenry. Mr Kyerematen, for his part, re-echoed the sentiments expressed by Ms Botchwey, while observing the compelling circumstances that led to the Abuja trip. Ghana not target For their part, the Nigerian ministers reiterated the fact that the closure of the borders was not targeted at Ghana but aimed at fighting against nefarious activities across those borders. source ...myjoyonline |

samorobo:Any power station which Nigeria is building less than 2000 megawatt is a waste of time. Ethiopia with a small population it is building 3000 megawatt dam. So keep on pulling yourself up and down the place 300megawatts is not enough for 10% of Lagos. Let me tell you Nigeria is trying to borrow money from IMF to build baby power stations

Mkenya2019:Try to explain to you the full story what goes on in Nigeria. The biggest problem which Nigeria is facing is illiteracy. Since independence Nigeria has spent 120 billion US dollar on electricity generators and fuel to power generators. Nigerians are not educated enough to generate their own electricity. If you want to put power lines from Europe to Nigeria it will cost you 30 billion US dollar. It is just more economical to put power lines from Europe to Nigeria than to waste money on illiterate which cannot do anything. This is why Nigeria is failing in agriculture the government will get billions of US dollar and give it to illiterate farmers. Here is a very good example the government will get 10 billion US dollar give it to the Farmers to grow rice the Farmers will only produce 2 billion US dollar of rice. So you have 8 billion US dollar of deficit. Now if somebody takes 10 billion US dollar and imports rice he will make 11 billion US dollar he will pay the 10 billion US dollar back and have 1 billion US dollar profit. These are the reasons why Nigeria is in massive debt. Anytime Nigeria's debt is skyrocketing the country boost is GDP. As Nigeria's debt is going up again the country will increase its GDP. At the end of it or you will find out that Nigeria's debt is more than the entire country |
