Nigeria approves US $302m for road projects


The Federal government of Nigeria has approved US $302m for road projects in the country. Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola confirmed the reports during a briefing on the outcome of the Council meeting held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa.

The Minister explained that US $220m will be used on the Ibadan-Ilesha–Ife dual carriageway project which upon completion, will connect Oyo and Osun states. The remaining US $82m will be spent on phase two of the Kano–Katsina dual carriageway, starting from Gidan Mutun Daya to Katsina Rolling Mill, Katsina State.

Road projects
The Kano–Katsina road was a single length highway until it was awarded in 2013 by the previous administration in phase one and expanded into a dual carriageway. US $553m was also approved for construction of link-roads, connecting the second Niger Bridge to Asaba and Onitsha.

“This completes essentially the access road that will link the bridge in the short time. These roads were under-designed when the bridge was awarded. Our administration completed the design and we have now awarded them. The roads were initially awarded under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) and the bridge in 2010 administration,” said Babatunde.

“What we have now done is to complete the award to the same contractor, so that there is a uniformity of construction,’’ he added.

A PPP deal is not a borrowing scheme it is an agreement between a private company and a government where th private company Wil get revenue from the project afterwards like Ibeju lekki and the sea port

All the trains which the Nigerian government purchase from China are passenger trains on the Lagos ibadan railway the railway cannot carry cargo goods as I told. This is one of the reasons why I like China when you want something loan they give you what you want. All the real ways which the Nigerian government is building is just for passages.. a government with no clear Direction.

It has been a extremely bad week for the Nigeria's especially on petrol tanker accident. It looks like now every 24 hours in Nigeria there is a petrol tanker accident. Nigerians are really suffering

We went to inspect some train cars which will be shipped down to Nigeria. Train cars are meant for lifting and conveying passengers not cargo.. room for cargos
are always created behind the train car....

You have to have both you cannot just have one and they need Lagos for its economic prowess otherwise the feasibility of the road will be questioned

Just like Kenya's railway from Nairobi to a small village was questioned by the Chinese government of the feasibility

Tanzania we know is one that has 3rd largest poorest people in Africa - after Nigeria and DRC. The Tanzania we know is one that HIGHLY INDEBTED COUNTRY(HIPC) and also LDC (Lower Income Country). The Tanzania we know is with highest MALNUTRITION in region. Tanzania we know - whatever indicator you pick - in East Africa - is only better than Burundi.

The reality is Tanzanians are incredibly LAZY, JEALOUSY, ILLITERATE AND PRIMITIVE. This is the LEGACY OF CCM AND UJAMAA that continues to run Tanzania affairs and stifle it's growth.

If you visit Tanzania or hear anecdotal evidence from those that have - you'll hear or see their legendary laziness. It may take them 30mins to serve you a cup of Tea.They just love gossiping. I don't think you'll find people that lazy in entire Africa continent.

KaziKazi having spend some time in South Africa - is undoubtedly their best English speaker. Imagine from high schools - they are taught all subjects bar Swahili in English - and you can guess their education outputs. If companies had their way - they would import professionals from Kenya, Uganda and etc.

Your debt to GDP ratio is above the 60% and world bank have warned you.Your gov stopped employing new folks for 3 years just because u have no cash. While,Tanzania have debt to GDP ratio of about 35%.who is indebted? Remember, Tz is paying cash to buy many stuff like jets,while you can't afford to pay cash for dreamliners!

Starvation have killed many in Turkana. Why don't u see that? Yet,you decided to do nothing about it.China gave you food aid.Qatar,a desert nation also donated food to you.Still you don't see that! While a united republic of Tanzania is selling you a million tonnes of cereals.again we are selling 700,000 tonnes of maize to Zimbabwe. All these crops have been cultivated by Tanzanians whom you call them lazy. The oranges you enjoy in Kenya are imported from Tz,cabbages,onions,beans,and other foodstuffs you use are from united republic of Tz! Yet,you claim we are lazy,while you who starve and waiting for food aid is a hardworking?

Tanzania isnt your league! We are not starving! We are exporters of foodstuffs. A poor nation is the one which can't feed herself.

I can't mention those tonnes and more tonnes of industrial minerals like bauxite,kaolins,limestones,calcium oxide etc! Now get more jealous!

It is polictics that has held that project.. I do know that red line rail connecting marina to mile 2 should be ready soon... Projects like this are financed by FG all over the world not state govt. Lagos barely generate anything as revenue and it is the meager revenue she generated that is used in financing the project.. But there is hope, Lagos recently signed an agreement with "ALSTOM "a French consortium ( they have built so many light rail around the world) to complete it plus I read somewhere that world bank is funding the project..
