seunmsg:Bro, which of the following persons (i.e. Oonis) is Obalufon Ogbogbodirin? Please factor the following historical fact into your potential answer: Each of these three Oonis are different individuals who ruled Ife at different times. Thanks! Modified: A comparison of these ancient artifacts prove one important thing (among others) --- It proves that: This particular regalia is not exclusive to any one past Ooni of Ife. In fact, the facial striation on some of the Oonis of Ife (as meticulously preserved by many ancient artifacts) is generally agreed upon by experts to be reminiscent of one (and only one) of the two different dynastic lines in ancient Ife. In other words, the first two artifacts below (for example) cannot possibly be representative of Oonis from the same ancient Ife dynastic line. In sum: This regalia is not exclusive to any one specific Ooni of Ife, or any specific one of the two ancient Ife dynastic lines. The regalia is thus evidently the distinctive and exclusive regalia of the Oonis of ancient Ife (regardless of the dynastic line); and I strongly feel that it should be copyrighted, especially the paired chest regalia. Cheers!

seunmsg:Okay! The point I was going to make with my question was that: That particular regalia is not exclusive to Obalufon Ogbogbodirin (or any other one specific Ooni of Ife.) I already expatiated on the point in the modified section of the same comment. Please check it out and let's exchange thoughts. Cheers! |

TAO11:I get your point. I raised the issue because the Ooni some weeks ago dressed exactly like he did today and posted it on Twitter attributing the regalia to Ooni Obalufon Ogbogbodirin. I’m just a little bit curious as to why he seems to be particularly fond of Obalufon Ogbogbodirin. |

seunmsg:Yes! But he mentioned Obalufon Ogbogbodirin in that post obviously because the most detailed, complete and wholesome preservation of this particular regalia for posterity has come down to us from ancient times through a bronze sculpture of Obalufon Ogbogbodirin (?). Hence, he posted his own picture beside that of this particular historical Ooni. He clearly and obviously didn't mean to say that no other Ooni adorned the same regalia. Hard archaeological evidence clearly and obviously shows that other Oonis (even from the other ancient Ife dynastic line) did adorn the same regalia. Oba Adeyeye was just misunderstood in that post. In sum, this particular regalia was adorned by past Oonis of Ife in general. In fact, it is by this regalia that past Oonis of Ife are distinctively and exclusively identified. It should be copyrighted! Check out time-stamp 49:22 to 49:40 of the video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQY_Jd--pwI&t=2070s Cheers! |
