There has been an uptick in propaganda account against the border closure in the last couple of days.

I do not support this government in any way or form but protection of home industries is the way developed countries became industrialized.

The border closure is a step in the right direction

Tissue paper and savieette production is a very lucrative business.
If you can get a durable and affordable machine for it, then your good to go

Very true...My friend that came back from Katsina to Abuja 2weeks ago bought a 50kg foreign rice for #11,500.00
This border closure is only effective in the Southern Borders....

Wen we said it earlier some ediots kept saying we were making up stories... Most Alhajis have become overnight rice merchants and have become overnight millionaires becos d so called border closure and customs is only taken seriously in d southern borders by d customs and other security agencies while up north it is business as usual.. Let's stop deceiving ourselves in dis country. Foreign rice in Katsina sells for less than 12k.

The border is manned only in the South. Very porous up north.

It's actually impossible to achieve 100% eradication. If you watch the programme Border Patrol, you'll discover that smuggling thrives even in developed countries.

I will be very cross with you if you expend your efforts in educating people who refuse to be educated..

I was in Zamfara last week, I saw where smugglers were smuggling goods including rice without any interruption by men of the Nigeria custom.

If Mr Buhari likes let him open all the borders in the north it will not stop the abject poverty in the north.

Ofcourse border closure is aimed at crippling the economy of the south

Border closure is not crippling the economy of the south. Some Igbo's, merchant do not represent the economy of the South.

If someone salaries is not enough for him,if he likes let him walk over-time for 20hours it will not still be enough for him.Mr Buhari is wasting his time closing borders. We shall all be alive to see the end of his wicked tenure.

Yeah! You directly drove into my point! Rice is just a little entity and a basic food that should be available for everyone!

When such a basic commodity is being smuggled into our country, then there is a huge problem.

Not to excuse Nigeria but I agree with the guy who said that 100% eradication of smuggling in developed countries doesn't exist.

By the way, what is mostly smuggled here is essentials like food, cars etc. Nigerian smugglers still they learn for where United States smugglers dey.

In the United States, the border in Texas, Florida, New Mexico, Arizona witness smuggling of narcotics, and humans on a scale that even, Trump's administration can't seem to understand. In the UK, Smuggling cartels from Eastern Europe bring in drugs, humans and Guns and all these happen under the nose of their customs.

All you need is to look for a greedy weak link in the chain and buy him with money.

The above list you gave is happening right under our noses! The only thing being brought to the fore is cars and rice! I can tell you that there are lots of illegal stuffs and trades going on within our border. Nigeria needs to be recolonised!

no pictures or videos?....I see this report as a way of discrediting the border closure to make it look as if it's against Southerners...how can smuggling boom when niger republic is landlocked??...the cost of moving goods from coastal West Africa to niger republic is enough for smugglers to desist from the act

the north grow more rice than south, so if fg deliberately condone smuggling in the northern border as you asserted, then who lose? The northern rice growers or the southern cassava growers. Let's be reasonable and objective

lawless abounds in the north, every policy the northerners implement, they themselves break, but they melt their pressure on the westerners and the southerners
