Feels that way. even with a B1, a test taker can "program" responses. There are also plenty of recycled questions compared to IELTS.

You hit the nail squarely and spot on. Perfectly put.

If you speak some French, hustle the writing and revise past questions. You will smash.

I saw one result 450/450 in writing - The guy smashed the rest. North African guy.

I was extra impressed.

Please how do I check the results in 4weeks time? Or would I be notified by mail? Was given a small slip containing ID and password. On what site will I use that?

Relax. You will smash. Tidy up other areas while waiting. Tidy up your Canadian package while waiting.

I have started revising for my IELTS. Doing listening. My results in writing and speak g might be the 1000kV jolt up the arse I need to double up IELTS preps.

I am taking it easy for now.

I am telling u, if you can smash TEF like mad, nobody will bother much about IELTS, moreover French comes handy more and more advantageous in Canada. @Enculer, have u written TEF before?

Yeah. I saw the raw scores from the certificate. The guy had a C2 in speaking as well cannot remember the score but it was outrageous. Almost as if the marker took a couple of points by force. LOL.

He did not need IELTS for other reasons though.

I wrote on the 17th. I am expecting my results in speaking and writing but I saw the first two immediately.

I was the only one in the centre. Turned the volume loud. No disturbance. I wrote a couple of years back to test my level for professional reasons. TEF not TEF Canada. I had B2 in all but 1 (speaking- C1).

There were noisy guys in the room. People reading out loud. They were extra inconsiderate. Plus they were quick. I almost went crazy.

So when I was usherd in this time. I was like yes I am king in this hall.

I have a sneaky feeling that TEF is made to encourage Francophones to score high. IELTS guys are just di.cks (excuse my French).

Unfortunately I am not young so I need to hustle both exams. Reason I was kicking myself when I dropped points in the listening.

Yes bro, I read a testimony of someone getting PPR 3 months Post AOR, I think she used French as primary option.

That was what motivated me. Plus I saw the way the guys were practicing online. LOL.

The advice I would give a young person straight from Uni is to set a 2-year plan - prepare hard and learn French.

I feel like advising every body to learn French cos sometimes you think you are very sound in English, and IELTS will just humble you at times, it can be demoralizing, any how God dey!! Canada is a goal!!!

Exactly. The questions are crazy. The speaking section has 3 parts right? TEF has got only 2. In addition, I sa a new fill in the gap type questions in the Section 1 of the Listening Section.

Yes, I think that is the guy. 2 perfect scores. Can you imagine IELTS giving someone perfect scores? No way. There is no way you speak goof French and they give you less than C1 - impossible. You would have to be pretty poor and determined to fail for you to get less than C1 (for Francophones).

IELTS sucks balls plus it is more expensive.

I will give it my try.

Pls I need your opinion people,
I'm considering starting at alliance francaise for 6 weeks intensive french class starting from A1 level but I recently came across a post about french diploma at Unilag for 9 months but classes only takes place on Saturdays.
I would like to know if anyone has gone through the diploma path? I'm aware people are taking this route for additional education qualification but in terms of TEF exam I had like to know the proficiency level if it's up to at least B1.
I would appreciate a quick response as I have less than 3days to apply for the program.

6weeks of intensive french classes would never be enough if your goal is to write TEF.

For the unilag diploma, if your aim is just to have the unilag diploma certificate to boost your crs points, then go ahead with it.

For the purpose of TEF exam, you need at least 7 months of intensive classes (everyday classes) and lots of personal efforts to stand a chance if you have no previous knowledge of french.

I already have a master degree, so the aim is just for TEF and I totally agree that I need a minimum of 7 months intensive class. That's why I mentioned "starting with A1 level" I intend going as far as the B2 level at Alliance Francaise. I just want to know if anyone here has had the diploma experience and if it's enough for the tef exam. By the way thanks for the response.

Alliance Française de Leeds
How long does it take to reach the next level ?
At the Alliance Française, we propose that students can expect to reach CEFR levels with the following number of cumulative hours of instruction:

A1 60–100, A2 160–200, B1 360–400, B2 560–650, C1 810–950, C2 1060–1200.
The Above numbers are the required number of hours to achieve each level @ Alliance Française.
For TEF préparation, you need 30 hrs separately.
So, choose for yourself. To get CLB 7 which can give you 42 pts, you need at least B2, or 52 pts for CLB 9. You can go to Alliance, hire a home tutor to expedite the time or get an online tutor. Whichever, u choose, u will spend but if u want to economise, you can learn it yourself which will take about one year. I am using a known online tutor though @ www.tobidam.com. duration for B2 is far shorter, if you want, you may contact him. On the same site, you can learn A1 for free.
I wish u Bonne chance.

French is not an easy language. You need plenty of time to study. You also need some form of immersion.

One year minimum study. You need to think about how you get the pronunciation as well.

So if you are looking at getting a B2 minimum in speaking, 1 year is minimum. You gotta work though. You gonna have to say goodbye to doing many things and seeing many people during that time.

Otherwise forget it. I see even the French make mistakes when they write or speak. You gotta be dedicated. No messing around.

I have gone past the motivation stage. LOL. I have gone and fought as a gladiator already - 17th october. It is now you guys' turn to face the music. He he he (just kidding).

Read journals on fait divers. Read fait divers from RFI.fr and other French news sites. Read at least 3 per week just to get the gist. All you need to work on first is understanding the gist, the structure, the tense to use, etc.

The rest will come.

Work on spelings as well.

Enculer, Are you a man/ woman? When some newbies join on this Canny Waka, they want to speak right now even more than you that have started a long time before them. Yet they don't want to spend by going to school offline or online neither are they willing to take the 1 year minimum to learn themselves. You wonder what do they want.
There are two ways to go to Canada
1. Be patient, economise and be frugal and wait till CRS come down or join PNP.
2. Where I belong: I work hard like my name is hard & spend even though I have to suspend some things in order to earn my goal.
Enculer & I, like others here will give all it takes to get what we want. So help us GOD!!

I am a guy. Yeah, I agree with you and I understand the urgency with the guys wanting to get extra points using French.

It is hard for sure, although some people are very good at languages. The challenge with learning in Nigeria is the lack of immersion options. Plus you need people who are extra motivated alongside you.

I still think it is possible through other IT means but you will need to spend a lot on connections and all.

I will check to see results and thank goodness for the provincial stuff....

The recent comments have been interesting to read.

Timelines for learning French to attain high enough marks (the aim is actually CLB7 NOT B2) in TEF and similar questions have been discussed time and again. Pls take time to read this very short thread...you won't regret it.

So many tips, reading materials etc are embedded herein and most will not see them! I missed some, discovering them late.

There are some things you need to know for yourself and be confident of...enough to correct a tutor who is leading you astray......it's not only about teaching the language....which any ex-AF tutor (offline or offline) can claim to do....but passing the exams. Would you go to just anyone for IELTS coaching, just because he speaks English, had a PhD in English or is an English Professor.

I remember one tutor I got after my first botched attempt...ex-AF..... he had no clue about TEF .....was trying to use DELF DALF sense to help me...unfortunately I only realised after the fact...I laugh in Spanish when I remember that for the homophones at the end of CO, he went as far as to tell me, they will never write what is grammatically incorrect as the "written phrase" vs "spoken phrase", it may have been more useful if he was teaching me how to differentiate between the sounds d and t or v and f. In writing, the guy was too shocked that i didnt get CLB7, when even me wey no be French teacher, I can clearly see the difference in my writing then and now. Many of them assume you need a B2...brothers and sisters...you can get B2 and still end up with only 4 points in total (don't ask me how o...the answer is less than 4 pages behind this one).

I can afford to say all this because as bible talk, I have not yet attained...I press on grin

Hmmm...I rest my case.
