See it this way. Going after FFK would have divided the West to Buhari's disadvantage. Going after Kanu fueled Kanu's movement and even led to the boycott of the election to some extent in the South-East owing to Kanu's proclamation. South-East being a PDP stronghold.
Kanu realized he goofed badly and decided to renege on the boycott but it was unfortunately too late. He played right into the hands of the APC.
The FG has more things to nail Kanu for such as leading a proscribed organisation and for treason (attempting to divide the country) but certainly not for his vulgar abuse which FFK and Fayose outdid.
Believe it or not, next to nothing happens in this country without a political coloration to it. No matter how remote.
