The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has barred parents, guardians and other persons from making any changes to the data page or profile of candidates for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME 2020).

The board said only candidates could make such changes to their data page or profile henceforth.

In a statement on Monday by its Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB warned its zonal and state offices nationwide, including Computer-Based Test Centres not to transact any business on candidates’ profiles on the request of parents, guardians or other proxies, except the candidates come in person.

The board said that it observed that there were cases of conflict on authorisation of changes on candidate’s data, majorly between candidates and their parents or guardians.

The board noted that it would apply sanctions to any of its workers or CBT operators who default in the rule.

The statement reads in part: “It has been observed that there are cases of conflict on authorisation of changes on candidate’s data, majorly between candidates and their parents or guardians.

“This is in addition to fraudsters taking advantage of the naivety of some candidates to collect their vital access codes to effect unauthorised changes on a candidate’s profile.

“Consequently, nobody, including parents or guardians or any proxy should be allowed to transact any business on any candidate’s profile.

“No third party should be allowed access into or alter the profile of any candidate at any of the board’s offices or any Computer-Based Test Centres.

“Only candidates themselves (not with anybody, any agent or parent/guardian) should be entertained to conduct transactions on their profile at the board’s offices and the computer based test centres. There is no exception to this instruction.

“All JAMB Zonal and state offices and accredited and approved CBT centres are hereby directed to strictly comply with this instruction without any waiver or use or misuse of discretion.

“The board’s system is automated to monitor, report and alert on access and alteration on every candidate’s profile, including providing information on the person, the place and the system or facilities that transacted such activities.

“The board will not hesitate to sanction any person or centre that fails to comply with this directive.”

This is a very good development.
Nigerian parents should learn how to accept their kids studying what they really want.

Gone are the days when parents should be the one enforcing what their children study in school.

Many youths life has been stagnant both in school and after school, cos they were forced to follow what their parents chose for them and not what they actually like/want.

Jamb pls note that this applicant need guidance,
A 16yrs old candidates does not know what life is all about in nigeria, they ar so many courses in our universities that need to be scrap. As I hardly see position in such course when advert for recruitment are advertise.
Library and information science
Animals science.
Soil science.

Firm or company hardly recruit in that field, and admission is easyly gotten in that department, so what happen after graduating (life after school).

If you don't have connection or you do not come from a well to do background, please avoid those courses that have no market value in nigeria, or if u have no dream of traveling out.

My child will never study such course.
Are you the one paying the school fees.
The course I study in school, I mine even using it to work.
Let alone, I hv not even seen any advert as relating to it here in nigeria.

And you want my child to repeat such error.

Keep that rules to your ward, except u choose to sponsor him or her. This is a family issue.

What stop jamb from making the form free just like navy or army form, also making education free to university level (federal university).

My personal opinion

Are they going to bar the parents from paying for the jamb forms since candidates are capable of doing everything on their own

Oh really!!!

What then should we say about jamb conniving with universities to admit students into departments with no reasonable value to the larger Nigerian society just because they want to fill up the department or a quota angry

You think the parents that will spend the money don't want the best for their wards
