Kukah Warns Buhari Against Social Media Regulation by valentineuwakwe(op): 8:20am On Nov 09, 2019
The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, on Friday warned President Muhammadu Buhari against the plan to regulate the social media in the country .
He gave the warning while delivering the convocation lecture at Achievers University , Owo, Ondo State . The lecture was titled, ‘ Some reasons Nigeria has failed to achieve greatness. ’
He said , “ A good number of people in power today don ’t even know the sacrifices we made to get this freedom and democracy .
“ Creating rules against social media, we should be careful. Freedom is to speak. Freedom is to speak responsibly.
“ We fought for this freedom and we will defend it with the last drop of our blood. If they think they can take it from us, another one is coming. ”

It should be regulated, I think. It gives every roaming idiot an avenue to abuse others and get away with it.

Parochial ambition to the detriment of national development

He once rode on the wings of social media in 2015 particularly.
Maybe it's time to weaken the social media

Lai Mohammed can no longer bear to see his master receive the type of online bashing he once gave Jonathan.

It was responsible opposition then, but now it is hate speech.

The same people who want to stiffle social media were the same people who rode on the same social media to denigrate and insult the office of the president during GEJ's time.

Anyway when the bill becomes law, tobcall the president to order on social media will lead to imprisonment. Many will go to jail. They are already testing waters and have already stiffled the print and conventional media with fines, license withdrawal and threats of shutdown. Channels and AIT are case studies.

I also wonder why the sponsorers of anti-social media bills are always from the north. Last dispensation it was Sen. Na'Allah who sponsored the failed bill during Saraki's time as Senate president, today it is another senator from kaduna.
This is really disturbing.

How do they even want to implement it is what I don't understand.

Will you come and arrest me tweeting from Canada or Australia or New Zealand?

Maybe they don't know how social media works. After all most of those senators ALLEGEDLY forged their academic certificates.

no one is talking about abuse here but posting of fake news or news that will incite one group or tribe against the other, thereby generating tensions and causing national unrest!

As if you care about the people
Face the real issue of governance and leave mundane things
Time is running you guys should try and leave a legacy instead of chasing shadows
Why is it always your regime that always opposed free press, what are you afraid of,i know certainly it's not for the love of the country
