A Major Fire Incident that would have caused serious damage was today averted in Awka as a Fully loaded Fuel tanker failed break while descending the ever busy Zik's Avenue, by St Patrick's Cathedral Church Awka. The Fuel truck driver have to crash the truck into the open drainage to stop the truck.

The impact of the fall ripped the tank open with fuel gushing into the gutter like the Ochanja incident.

The prompt response of the fire service alerted by the Catholic Church saved the situation, as the fire service truck arrived on time to keep the truck and environment under control in conjunction with the police team.

Reporting live from the scene.

Banning the movement of trucks does not change anything. God forbid, What if the fuel trucks moved at night and caught fire? How would the situation be salvaged when people are fast asleep? The bottom line is the government should have fire trucks available to put out the fire.

It is well.

You have a point, this kind of accident happening at night while people are asleep will be disastrous.

Efforts should be put in checking road worthiness of those trucks

Again ministry of transport failing to perform their duties. Laws create jobs and safety how are we failing to understand this?

Well, when you buy a second hand truck that won't have passed safety checks in its country of origin, don't maintain it well, as and at when due, and refuse to make it roadworthy, (and bribe FRSC officials to look the other way)...plus careless driving, and often times, drivers with bad eyesight. (yes, it happens. Road safety once did an eye test at one motor park in Nigeria...and found a lot of drivers have poor eyesight).

Like what do you expect? Not everything is terrorist attack.

Work of BH. These daredevils have switched tactics to begin using fuel tankers in the SE and mysterious fire outbreaks in the SW to cause tears and sorrow.

Banishing fuel truck movements is the ultimate ways to avert large fire incident on the road and to do this, alternative solution must be made on ground.

Fire service only control fire which doesn't help much because tanks explosion takes out many victims in few seconds before an eye blink.

Ask the owners of those fuel tankers if their tankers are properly maintained and if their drivers are properly trained to drive them. We are our own worst enemies in this country.
