What's your take on Artificial Intelligence?? by MountainView: 2:23am On Oct 25, 2019
Hello guys, It's 2 AM in the morning. I created this thread so that we all could rub minds on our opinion about AI

We all know AI is the future, sure, that's where the world is heading to at the moment, it is leading in the 4th industrial revolution

I don't need to mention the applications of AI, which are innumerable, we see it everywhere with Google, Facebook and the U.S tech giants at the front-line of Companies that make use of this new technology.

Famous Physicist Stephen Hawking once said the emergence of artificial intelligence could be the “worst event in the history of our civilization.”

Now let me ask my first question

Do you think AI will be the greatest mankind will ever make, and what are your other thoughts about AI??

please drop your wonderful opinions let's argue small smiley

With the rapid development of AI, I think an automated society as seen in SciFis like Star Wars, is undoubtedly, not far away. We'd see machines continue to take over jobs( programming included) done by humans as it is happening today.

What raises concerns though, is whether we'd end up building an uncontrollable intelligence that totally surpasses ours and in extension, the consequences such possibility might have on our existence as a specie.

Fingers crossed

No kidding. I give you an example . Just about ten years ago, building websites from scratch was the norm and was really a big thing done only by professionals. Today, we have various CMSs that make building from scratch a waste of time and therefore, semi-obsolete.An average Joe can build a website in a few hours nowadays.

In the near future, an AI might take over coding and do it much faster and better than humans. Big investors wouldn't see the need to employ programmers as they'd have a better alternative in AI. The rest is history.

Doctors, Drivers, Pilots, and even Nairaland mods are not spared too( seriously we have bot moderators on Reddit). grin

No matter how intelligent a machine or software is, it can never takeover the work of humans, at least not completely.

The same was said of paper being eradicated at the advent of computer, but look around you, paper doesn't seem to be going into extinct anytime soon.

Agreed, AI will make some people jobless and of course some jobs will go into extinction but trust me, competent individuals will definitely get their jobs till thy kingdom come.

AI will solve some challenges or problems that are difficult for mankind for example in healthcare. We are still in the early stage of AI, once we get to strong AI it over.

My brother, this automation thing is really not a joke ooo. Seeing ground-breaking technologies like Facebook being able to detect how many people are in a picture, telling you who is wearing glasses in a photo and who is sitting on a car... That's some serious AI!

Talking about technology, computers are already able to do better what humans can. Maybe in other areas, humans may still be needed. But it's hard to think about an aspect of technology where computers cannot take the role of humans. Computers can write better, more efficient and surely more high-performant (and of course, faster) code than any human can. And to cap things off, the useless things get better every single time.
It's not really a bad thing. But the problem is, it's not a good thing either.
Re: What's your take on Artificial Intelligence?? by hardebayho(m): 4:11pm On Oct 27, 2019
To think about AI and how it'll help mankind, there's really a lot it'll do. It'll help people live better, make people make smarter choices, present smart options, enhance security, improve productivity, efficiency, and so on..

But with every good part, comes the bad ones. AI improves laziness, increases unemployment, lacks creativity, too much dependency on the things (our smartphones and computers are good examples. Some people can't sleep without visiting WhatsApp in a day), very dangerous tools (if put in the wrong hands, can really do some serious damage to this world).

That's what I think about AI. Whether it's good or bad? Well, I wouldn't know. For me, it's both, just like everything else.

We may have been born too late to explore earth and too early to explore space; but yet we may be here just in time to witness the rise of Artificial Intelligence.

I am optimistic that AI will help humanity in every aspect of our human endeavors including healthcare and finance.

Automation is the future develop without limits.!

It seems you are not aware of the current trend. Well Google has recently developed an AI, capable of reprogramming itself without human input.

Autonomous systems, cars and robots capable of making their own decision are steadily entering the public space and it's only a matter of time before it becomes part of our daily life.

Yet the greatest question is "will AI help or destroy humanity?"

The answer lies in the hand of a developer.

Thanks nappy760, we are almost set. I had thought it was a piece of cake building up a centre, but it turns out I was wrong. So what I thought would have been completed in October will now have to be December. Going by the assurances from the builders.

We are at roofing level now. So fingers crossed.

But you are welcome to inspect the project.

Artificial Intelligence would never match up with human evolution. Artificial Intelligence has got an adoption cycle like every technology's ever existed. On the curve, adoption would decline and probable emergence of a fierce competition.

Automation better placed is the future. Long walk ahead.

How will Ai take over agriculture?

AI is capable of helping farmers in the areas soil nutrient analysis, crop fertility prediction and general farm practices.

A certain young man from Nigeria won global attention and research grant after creating an AI enabled app that is capable of analyzing soil nutrient.

Those friends that are suggested to you on Facebook have you ever asked who does that job? It is the work of AI.

The internet is useless without AI, smart phones are useless without AI. Those words being suggested to you while you type with you keypad is a function of AI systems embedded on your device.

AI will kill you and never get arrested. Even when arrested nothing go still happen. But I'm full fledged AI buddy. I think if some of us here come together and rub mind, we could improve AI in this country by building stuffs. We could start from whatsapp group and create a github repo for sharing code.

In Africa we keep observing and not participating. If you look today most great countries has plans for AI research, and in African no plan. There are lot of problems in Africa that need to be solved. Using AI to solve those problems will be great. For example using AI for election, for farming, controlling traffic, in healthcare, security e.t.c. those Good in the field should work on something.

You have a good foresight.
It is undebatably true that innovation thrives in an undeveloped area.

Nigeria and Africa in general will be transformed if we can individually contribute to the development and deployment of AI tailored to our needs.

How would you use AI for election?

It will require both hardware and software. First we have to create a database for all the voters. The hardware will be an AI system, the function of the system is read data of card, validate voters using facial recognition and fingerprint for voting. There are other processes, but Let me stop here.
