I'm a graduate learning Programming at the moment.

Since I can't learn coding on an empty stomach with no support from anywhere, I decided to take up a job as a classroom teacher in a primary school. The pay is #22,000 + lesson fee of #8,000 and I get extra #2,000 for the transportation cost of one of my pupils.

My monthly transportation cost is #8,000
Hence take monthly income is #22,000.

The perks of lesson notes and marking is killing me, besides shouting upandan in the classroom as I get home mostly exhausted.

Now I got a "connect" to drive for a car hailing service in Ilorin (like uber). According to the guy I spoke with, the pay is between #25,000 to #30,000 not yet sure, also there is a tendency that I may have to spend t-fare of #6,000 that is if I'm not allowed to take the vehicle to my place.
Which will bring the monthly down to #19,000 or #24,000

But I'd have time to rest and i won't get exhausted as usual

Hence my confusion. Should I go with the stressful job with a better pay or the less strenuous one with a lower pay. Also I'm considering the lifetime of the businesses due to the seasonal revenue of Ilorin, the school has a better chance of survival than the car hailing service job.

Please advise me.

Driving job is far less stressful and will give you time to learn coding. Drivers jobs are always available even if you loose the present one.

What a country where a graduate needs to pick between a driving job and a less paying teaching job. (Nigeria go better)
Well book na scam sha. The future is only for entrepreneur and those that can think outside the box

Back to the topic. Op I feel the teaching job is better. The car business is a blind market to me because all terms and conditions are yet to be stated. What of maintenance, fuelling and other risk involved. I hope you won't hit someone but what if vice versa who will pay. And I believe the payment can't be fixed it depends on the number on passengers etc coz if its fixed all the drivers will just seat still. But the teaching though stressful will give you better time to work on yourself.

Goodluck with your hustle bro

Are you sure its less stressful? Sourcing for passengers working from morning till evening a times night than a classroom teacher where he sits and can he check some programming stuff on his free period. I feel for anyone tryna build a career and work along side teaching z a better option than driving.

Yes bro.

The fueling will be done by the company. All i have to do is pick customers when there's a request. Obviously I'm paying for any damages to the car

I feel you should put the decision on hold till you get the full terms and conditions of the car company afterwards, weigh both options well. But if I were you, teaching will give me better time and less risk

Teaching is a more respectable profession than being a driver, so no! My reason is that if you teach u are also developing yourself, u will be free from heavy abuse/insults most drivers get on daily basis, if not that the country is useless u can progress quick in case u wanna further studies if interested in full time lecturing job and its good u are learning programming too. Just teach one day God will uplift u forget the easy shortcut to success bro, its not what u think. For me, I would say do the teaching job and take up the driving job as part time, say Saturdays and Sundays or after school hours if u keen to double your hustle angry I know guys doing same and using it to pay their bills undecided

Op, I know life might be hard but please stick to the teaching job. It avails you more time to learn programming to upgrade. Driving especially in Lagos is a stressful and time consuming venture.

You are right. I will advice the OP to continue his teaching job then try the driving as a side job then decide.

The stress of driving will kill you. Stick with your teaching job for now. In driving, no rest, even on Saturdays and Sundays!

The kind of things people go through in this country is just disheartening. I will suggest you independently build apps and market . However if you only have these two options available kindly pick the driving job.

If you think you are not making much impact in the lIves of your students you can let go but if you think you enjoy teaching but you also think you deserve more than what you are earning, why not try and pursue being a better teacher in a better atmosphere

I have seen someone that got a job in oil company through one of his pupils parent... You can pursue and achieve your Carrier in teaching even divert to another well paid job.... But driving might not be so easy to migrate then consider unforseen cost and hazard on it.

Teaching helps you to remain academically in tune especially if you have intentions of walking the cooperate world, that driving job exposes you to various agboroism without your permission due to encounter with different task force
Some will tear away some of your documents while checking them and still ask you of it

Not a primary school teacher.

Choosing the driving job would give you more time for your programming and driving also has some side money you can get from it.

But who curse this country such that a graduate is left with these options ?

God should help the citizens of this country, after 4-5 years of schooling, you're trying to make decision on two jobs that is not even up to 30k (pocket money).

I feel some jobs is just to delay your life. Some people are very wicked, to me these are no job, they are work.

in my own opinion, a driving job is only easy when you are employed as a driver. that means you take oga to work, then spend the rest of the day loafing in the office. driving uber - your performance is tied to the number of rides you carry. it is a completely different beast and i am not sure you will get any free time from there either

The driving job doesn't pay a reasonable higher salary and from the look of things, the salary may not be constant...stories fit dey enter at the end of the month. The teaching job is stressful like you said but i think you will still have some time to learn your coding. The driving job might require you to work on weekends and public holidays aa these periods might be their peak when they have more customers. Remember you can be extremely careful while driving but one unfortunate oloriburuku can still come hit your car and run. At the end of the day, you have to pay for damages. You will end up borrowing money to fix car wey nor be your own. The only reason you should take the driving job is if the salary is over 80k.
