If these countries - Benin and Niger fail to abide by our rules, they will become the 37th and 38rh States of Nigeria respectively through the use of force. We mean business this time around, the era of father Christmas is over ! |

Fairview1: Local production of food and agricultural products, reduction in smuggled petroleum products and reduction in terrorist and violence robbery. All these arent good enough? What's wrong with Nigerians making money out of rice instead of the vietnamese. I get that Nigerians dont trust government, heck young people dont even trust older people. The result of distrust at this scale is a whole raft of conspiracy theories. But some things are clearly evident. We can not continue to equate progress with the absence of pain and inconvenience. There is always a price to pay. 1 Like |

BreconHills: True! But in as much as I agree with you on some points there are still some areas where I will beg to disagree! @TheBolded. No Nigerian is making any money other than the political bigwigs as this was not intended to capture the middlemen on the strret. The value chain of the locally produced commodities are not going down well as they are supposed to. Reason why there's no balance on the market price. You and I know Nigeria can not afford to produce the quantity and quality of grains needed to feed Nigerians without depending on the so called Vietnamese or imported rice. We are way too huge to rely on the locally produced rice. There are so many things which some people aren't seeing about this border closure. Its not anything about increasing the efficiency of goods produced within. There are some political games behind it. You never imagined why bags of local Rice which was selling for less than 14k and 15k 20k all of a sudden skyrocketed to 21 and 25k respectively. If not for anything else, at least the locally produced rice should be selling for 14 or 15k, then we know truly, our government are genuinely encouraging homegrown products. This doesn't end here, it cuts across several other product lines. Rice is just the frontier and I hope you know what happen if proper measures are not accelerated on time. A looming inflation! 2 Likes |

Fairview1: The current price of rice is a function of our penchant for foreign rice that is creating price pressure on limited supplies of imported rice and inducing local sellers to rebag local rice as foreign rice to increase their margins and smoothen the reduction in their earnings. This is simple short term mechanics. The ban on imported rice and the support of domestic producers is in order. You said there is no downward value disteibution along the value chain. This is false. The increased earnings that the rice growers make is spent within the local economy at the bottom of the earnings pyramid unlike the monies earned by importers which is spent outside the country or on luxury items. It is the right of every citizen to distrust or criticize the government but you cannot remake the laws of economics. You say there are some political games behind it. This is speculation. What we need are numbers and I have explained the reasoning behind the numbers you have provided. There is a significant increase in domestic production and this can only be because it makes economic sense. There has also been an increase in mills and large investors are no coming into production aggregation, milling, storage and distribution. What you are seeing unfold is the development of end to end grains industry. This is good for Nigeria and short term inconveniences can not change fundamental facts. Nigerians were not born with rice in between their teeth. 1 Like |

litetias: Mine turned out a fake message. After the SMS I've been able to receive and access funds from other sources but not just the one in the mysterious SMS; no trace of the money anywhere in my account up to this very moment. I guess my friend pranked me with bulk SMS or something. In your own case, I suspect it's a matter of time before it hits your account, I wasn't even told the actual bank the money at. Just be patient bro. |
