Mr I too know. Please there was never a coup in Nigeria in 1967. The war broke out in 1967 after Ojukwus declaration. The 1966 coup was in January and counter coup was in July same year. Which was dubbed July Rematch. It was masterminded by Murtala Muhammed. Check your history.

Fresh facts had emerged that Ironsi had set up a court martial that would take place after his nationwide tour that was by August 1966 but the counter coup took place by July which changed everything. The truth was that the reason for the coup was basically hinged on the unitary decree to which the north saw this as an attempt by the south to take over the jobs in the north because they knew they couldn't compete with the advanced south most especially the eastern region. But then we need to heal from this episode rather than all this nasty words you are pandering.

It doesnt matter what decree 34 says or said, decrees are only for military rule. What matters is that the 4 Regions that existed before before Ironsi came to power were still there the day Ironsi died

Oga stop peddling lies here. Ironsi brought up the Unitary system to unify the civil service so that it would be similar to the command structure prevalent in the army. He still retained the regions as they all had military governors. Hassan Katsina(North) Adebayo(Western) Ejoor(Midwestern) and Ojukwu(Eastern). The issue started from the war in a bid to starve the east of finances. Gowon centralized everything so that the revenue comes to the centre first before it is shared to other states. After the war successive governments discovered how this can help them amass funds for themselves and as such didn't bother to change it. also the issue of shipping and the relocation of oil HQs to Lagos. This was done during the war, because prior to that Shell's HQ base was first in Owerri before they moved to PH after oil was discovered at Oloibiri. The samething with shipping eastern bound shipping was diverted to Lagos at the onset of the war to enforce the blockade, but unfortunately after the war the successive governments never paid attention to upgrading the eastern ports. it was only Apapa that was upgraded and Tincan was now built. so you see this country will never be on the right path if fairness is not entrenched.
