What is all the arguments, back and forth all about?

Mahama has no right to freely speak his mind on anything, including the border closure? He has every right to speak his mind, even if you don’t agree with what he said.

For me, I love this border closure for the simple reason that other West African countries now know that Ecowas is a scam grin Now, every country will take steps to protect its domestic markets. That is why I fully support Ghanaians closing nigerian shops in Ghana. grin I support it 100% and expect nigerians to support what Ghanaians are doing? Every country has a duty to take the actions needed to protect its national interests, isn’t it? angry grin
Stop threatening us with closing shops because I thought by now you guys should've been done with that, borders remain shut

The issues are not the same. The issue they have is illegal immigrants crossing the border from Mexico. Totally Mexico's fault.

Yours is NIGERIAN CITIZENS importing rice into Nigeria from neighboring countries. Totally Nigeria's fault.
And the illegal goods is passing through whose country, when we have our own port.

As long as it is illegal, the government careless who where involved, as long as neighboring countries are supporting them, let the border remain closed

Since you can pass follow bush, why asking for border reopening?
Illegal businesses are not the only thing going on across the border. There're more genuine businesses going on there than illegal. Many businesses in both Nigeria and neighboring countries are paralysed right now but that's the part your FG won't tell you.

Milo
Maltina, malta guiness, etc.
Coke, fanta, etc.
Lux, Detol, Detla, etc.
Toothpaste- Close up, Maxam, etc.
Plastic utensils.
Electronic goods- TVs, phone, etc.
Car spare parts.
..........Plus too many others so many to name, all get supplied legitimately from Nigerian companies to neighboring countries. But guess what?Neighboring countries would soon be compeled to find alternatives elsewhere, therefore, put Nigerian businesses out of business. Again, this's the part they won't tell you.

That idiot who handed their economy to IMF under his watch is using NIGERIA to become a hero in his country because of 2020 election..
You see how these people have taken advantage of NIGERIA for their personal gains...

Allow us to worry about the nonsense you listed above..
Ecowas has benefited alot from Nigeria.
We've used our money and blood to make sure Ecowas is still in existence today..
What has NIGERIA gained from Ecowas or any Ecowas country??
We give ghana gas even when we need the gas to generate our own electricity..
What sort of nonsensical big brother to ungrateful smalls brothers can sustain bleeding for her other siblings and and live?
We want to use what we have in our country to fix our country.. who cares if other Ecowas countries collapse and die

You don't give anything for free to neighboring countries. You're competing in a capitalist world but closing your border as part of competition is dumb. You talk about gas? Like Russia, Nigeria do have the gas resources to supply gass to the whole of West Africa and beyond, but your blind leaders won't exploit that opportunity, instead, you cry about other ''small countries'' out competing you.

We all know that but not at the scale you're talking, what's the total population and economic strength of Ghana, Togo, Benin, Niger, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso etc combined compared to Nigeria that their failure to not buy goods from Nigeria would collapse our industries? They have no alternative than to come using the seaport because importing from Europe would be far more expensive for them.

You are telling us about our loss but you don't know that your alomo bitters company is losing $1 million monthly since the closure, your GCCI visited about 3 or 4 companies in the Kumasi region and collectively they are losing $3 million weekly, these are figures that are in public domain, what about those companies in Ghana presently dying off?

You've just turned logic upside down. The whole reason we're even talking about smuggling is because its cheaper, faster, easier to import in neighboring countries than Nigeria.

We're talking about a population of about 150 million. And I bet you, they'll find alternatives. Nigeria has just given then an idea of what to do.

Who are the 150 million, Nigeria or the rest of ECOWAS?

Do you even understand the ECOWAS rule on importing from a third party that is not a member of ECOWAS and moving the goods to the recipient country?

You asked how big the population of the locked out market and I said150 million. That's just an estimate, it could be a bit bigger or smaller. As for ECOWAS regulations, I already mentioned that those countries obey the rules but Nigerians have a way of getting around it via loopholes therein.

If I should go by your estimate, Nigeria is 201 million and who needs who more for survival?
Those leeching ECOWAS countries know Nigeria would always forgive after some weeks after warnings in the past, they are surprised that Nigeria wouldn't even bother after much begging for so many months.

Stop talking crap! the only reason I am on nairaland is because you nigerians were talking about Ghana and Ghanaians. that is my only interest. Do you see me commenting on anything apart from issues relating to Ghana and Ghanaians? I don't give a flying fvck about anything else on nairaland grin

i don't know why you nigerians think whatever success Ghana achieves is because of nigeria. Ghana's economy is doing very well, as Africa's best performing economy, and growing rapaciously at 8.8 percent.

Ghanaians are generally friendly people, but we are beginning to see some people want to take advantage of our friendly attitude. Friendship is built on mutual respect. you respect me I respect you, that is the foundation of a good friendship. the good thing is that trade among west african countries is extremely low. perhaps apart from Benin, the rest of west africa have very little trade so they can conveniently move on.

Is it Ghana's fault that nigerian does not have regular electricity? why cant nigerian fix its electricity problem and compete economically with other west african nations? how long will you shy away from competing with other west african countries because of power shortages in your country? and you keep signing all the international treaties that requires you to open your borders, such as ecowas and africa free trade treaty, but you don't want to abide those agreements you signed.

nigeria currently exports freely to Ghana but will not allow Ghanaian exports into Nigeria. if this is not hipocisy of the highest order, than I don't know what it is. my personal opinion is that ecowas is a sham, and that every ecowas country should henceforth be free to whatever it wants to promote its national interest. nigerian cannot adopt policies it thinks is in the country's best interest, and not expect other countries to follow suit.

i don't understand what you mean by a nigerian leader can hit Ghana hard? that is a very stvpid thing to say. what can nigeria do to Ghana? exactly what can nigeria do to '"hurt" Ghana? nigeria cannot do sh1t to Ghana. stop talking crap cool

Genegiria or whatever you username is, I know you are a Ghanaian on this platform, I have my facts, I expect you to take the feedback you read from here to Ghana and you should not,I repeat you should not come to this platform to attack anyone on his of her opinion.
Ghana to the best of my understanding is one of the most friendly nations to Nigeria and you can be sure depending on your age and level of exposure that Nigeria has been reciprocating the good relationship. However, in recent time, we are beginning to see how Ghana has been taking undue advantages of our relationship. Let me say the for the purpose of record and avoidance of doubt, no nation will ever tolerate Economic from another country. Today, an average Nigerian prefer Ghana to all the Francophone WA combined, but when companies start to close down in Nigeria only to open operation in Ghana because of cheap labour and perhaps stable Electricity supply , to end up supplying the products to Nigeria market under ECOWAS free trade agreement, will any sane leader not look for a way to address such issue. Tell me will Ghana tolorate such from Nigeria? You can't love your neighbor more than yourself.
The treatment you have been giving to Nigerians in your country, if we retaliate, it won't be okay for West Africa.
We have seen it now that indeed, Ghana is ready to take advantage of Nigeria if the have the opportunity and Comments and actions of an average Ghanian is capable of driving a crazy Nigerian leader to hit you hard, but for now, allow the peaceful relationship to thrive, otherwise, we shall let you know we are not completely helpless.

Your people should transport goods through the means which you used to transport yourself here
Lol.
To reply number 1: I guess he certainly must have passed through airport.
To reply number 2: That is what has made me tired of the stupidity of so many people! See, Nigeria did not ban/has not banned importation of foreign rice or importation of goods from any country. Rather, they banned importation of ANYTHING WHATSOEVER, THROUGH LAND! (take note o!). Now, why that ban? Answer: because more than 90% of those importing through land do not pay duties - and NEPZA, quoting World Bank statistics, said about N1.45trn worth of goods are smuggled annually through Benin land border alone!. So the government is now sayingi: let them transport their goods through sea and/or by air and land either in seaports or (cargo) airports where they can be visible to all, evaluated and charged appropriate dutiese, that's all! .So why all these stupid noise from them?

I don’t even what you mean by if Ghana were Nigeria stuff. Nigeria went into agreement with other west African countries to come together to form ecowas. Nigeria just woke up,one day and closed its borders, without issuing any alert. That is a very stvpid thing to do. Why couldn’t nigerianissue at least two weeks or a month notice that it wanted to close its borders? When countries behave as if there are no international treaties and laws governing their conduct, they should be condemned.

Tomorrow, other west African countries will act arbitrary in a manner that may affect Nigerians and Nigeria, what will you nigerians say about that? And there won’t be any sympathy for Nigeria or Nigerians. Or you have forgotten that Nigerians are scattered in all west African countries, and some of them have investments in those countries? When governments in west Africa start targeting Nigerians living in their countries, it won’t be funny oooh.

Gradually, we are moving into that era where every west African country will begin to take actions to protect its national interests, as well as the interests of its citizens. Ecowas can go to hell!

I don’t get it. Why can’t people export things to Nigeria through the land borders, just like other countries in the world? Show me the numbers of countries of the world that only accept imports through seaports and airports? How many countries? Name them.it is the duty of Nigeria to protect its borders and make sure anything that comes into Nigeria can be accounted for. That is what happens in every other country. Why is it different in Nigeria? Nigeria can as well admit that it unable to effectively police its land borders. In that case, the UN can deploy some help to Nigeria. Simply because you are unable to police your borders, then you close it. That sounds very very.............
Truth is, you're very right! But since the borders can't be properly monitored, this current situation is the only solution. Initially, people will blame Nigerian customs and Police but it is way beyond them - monitoring and policing borders are extremely herculian and not 100% possible - not even developed natiions can, remember that there's no fence there o! In Ogun state alone, they said there are more than 400 paths in bushes, into Nigeria from Benin Republic and anybody can enter Nigeria through there. Worse of all, our neighboring countries, they are very satanic, devilish and notorious. They are killing our economy and jeopadizing our internal security by purposely ignoring criminal smugglers. Firearm weapons even come into Nigeria through these same borders, you have no idea how terrible the situation is! So let the borders remain closed!

please, please stop using those type of words to describe another country. what do you mean they are satanic, devilish and notorious? are you aware those doing the smuggling are nigerians? Benin just saw an aopportunity and just exploited it. there is nothing wrong with that. is it Benin's responsibility to protect nigeria's borders? nigeria should take responsibility for its failings. it is not the duty of Benin to protect nigerian's borders. it is the responsibility of nigeria to protect its borders, just like other countries do.

i don't have any problem with nigerian keeping its borders closed for eternity. it is good because now other west african countries are contemplating measures along the likes of what nigeria has done. ecowas is the biggest fraud of the centurygrin grin grin

NIGERIA is a sovereign country who can do whatever it please and however it please with her borders. Is not for who crawled out of a cave to tell NIGERIA how to manage her affairs instead of giving that same idea to you banana republic ghana, that's still in existence because IMF there..
Should you be ashamed of yourself and country that gained Independence 60 years ago and has begged IMF 16 times in her 60 years of miserable existence to come manage her economy for her cos they have no men and women with functional brains to handle their country after all, they're black stars which represents second class of everything..

A family living in Ogun state have shocked many after revealing that kidnappers collected yam tubers and palm oil as ransom.

Facts have emerged on how the three victims of kidnappers in Ode-Omi in the Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun state were released from their captors, a report by Punch has revealed.

A family source told our correspondent on Monday that the kidnappers collected a sum of N3.5m, a carton of Schnapps, 30 litres of palm oil and 10 tubers of yam before the victims were released.

The police in the state had last Friday said they had rescued the son of the Chief Imam of Ode-Omi, Abdulazeez Sanni and two others – Adams Bamidele and Jelili Adams – who were abducted last Sunday.

The trio were reportedly kidnapped on the eve of the Eid-el Adha in Ode-Omi, a boundary community between Lagos and Ogun states.

The state Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, had said no ransom was paid.

The source said, “The kidnappers collected N3.5m, carton of schnapps, 30 litres of palm oil, 10 tubers of yam and a five-litre keg of vegetable oil.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the police command was not aware of payment of any ransom .

Oyeyemi said, “The victims were rescued by policemen of this command. We are not aware of any ransom.”
