If you plan to live in places like Lagos and Abuja, you might want to go with some humility, cos if you go dey form big man, na when you go out for night you go gentle. You go see the way naija boy dey spend money like sey like tomorrow no dey. I'm talking from experience.

Your personality will determine what you'll need to be able to survive in Nigeria. However there are some general items that must not be missing unless you want to get beat down. Some of these items include:

1) Self-Esteem: This is very necessary because the Nigerian hustling spirit can kill your self esteem. Unfortunately this is something you can't buy but you can start developing yourself.

2) Good  Quarreling and fighting skills: I don't think there's anybody who has lived in Nigeria that has not quarreled or exchanged word with someone else. This is very common with motorists(private and public). So, it's imperative that you have some abusive prowess and be ready because quarrels can lead to fights. There's no discrimination when it comes to fighting in Nigeria. Whether you're aged, young, small, big. You can be sure that there's no hiding place.

3) Money: You're a nobody without money in Nigeria. Having money will help you to achieve the first item on my list. Almost everything you need in Nigeria will involve money. From getting an admission to receiving prayers from some pastors and even finding love. Yes you heard me right. I said "finding love". In Nigeria, the antiquated idea of love has been left behind for a new definition of love. According to the Nigerian dictionary love can be defined as "Money + anything".


I'll be back for more specific requirements for living in Nigeria.

It's common sense, when you spend more than you brought and when unexpected situations arise, you have to borrow. It happens almost all the time for people who do not have a contingency plan.

Shoot, I've not been home in a while now (I mean few years) and after my older sisters experience with her husband, I'm scared and I have scaled back my plans till late this year hopefully my mom goes home and I'm sure things are cool. The good thing is that I don't have anyone having hopes on me ----well except my grandparents so less cash to spend.
