The federal government has directed that all unqualified teachers should be removed by December 31, 2019. The Registrar, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Olusegun Ajiboye, stated this while inducting over 200 Education graduates of the University of Ibadan.

According to him, quacks teaching Nigerian children would be replaced by qualified and certificated Education graduates to mould sound future leaders for the country. The registrar noted that teachers must stand shoulder-to-shoulder with other professional groups in the knowledge-driven economy. While administering the Oath of Practice on the inductees, Professor Ajiboye reiterated that any teacher found wanting in the code of practice would be sanctioned. He also said Nigerian teachers now have a separate and unique career path with the recent approval of the Teachers’ Career Path by the National Council on Education. “It is worthy to stress the importance of today’s induction ceremony in line with government directives.

Sugar coated statement. Is there non minimum NCE teachers in public school?
Most of the private schools have non NCE teachers and they are performing well, well. This is bitter truth.

They are only putting the horse before the cart.. I have seen hundreds of these so called "Educators " that ain't good enough to lace the shoe of a School Cert Holder not to mention of Holders of non-education Degrees.

The TRCN should review their syllabus and raise the standard.

This man only wants more people to register for that TRCN. They've been saying this threat for ages now.

How many teachers would be paying 9k yearly for membership?

Some (if not most of) education graduates(including NCE holders) are nothing to write home about when it comes to English speaking and that happens to be the lingua franca of Nigeria. So how will they pass the message properly to the students or pupils (i.e people in general).

Most of those teachers doing well are pure B.Sc or B.A holders that did PGDE or any other professional courses to make them educationally inclined.

If not for the situation of things in the country, do you think all these accidental teachers (Pure B.Sc and B.A etc holders) will go close to teaching in the first place.

That’s Nigeria for you. They believe in destroying, killing, sacking and others.
Instead of creating more problems why can’t they create a process to convert the “unqualified teachers” ?
The so called “unqualified teachers” are the university graduates that didn’t study education.
Many private schools have them because they get results and they are masters of their subject areas.

That’s why we are where we are all these years; moving in a circle. When people in government are bunch of rogues suffering from cluelessness, why will our country progress? If you think TCRN is the best for schools, then do a pilot test in the public schools and see the result. It’s sad.
