RealityShot:Why can't you go for the job you were trained to do in the university?. Why going for teaching that you were not trained to practice and thus not your field?. Hypocrites should leave teaching for trained teachers. 1 Like |

Jobabori:so 15 years computer engineering and training experience after university is not enough to have wisdom to pass knowledge to the next generation? do you know how many times i correct and add to what is written in those dry "approved" textbooks? our education standard is very poor because that sector is left to 3rd class students ! how many of those in college of Education dreamt of going there after sec school? how many of the best students in s.s. 1 go to Arts/social science class? Very few! in Nigeria, once a child is performing badly academically, he/she is directed to study education/arts! what rubbish! how many Physics Professors studied Education, Oga? 1 Like |

Jobabori:by the way, i studied environmental engineering at University. how many incineration plants are in Nigeria? how many managed landfills? how many companies are charged for effluent discharge? how many EIAs are conducted for big companies with huge environmental impacts like Cement factories, gas power plants? the OGONI oil spill cleanup would have employed thousands of environmental companies/workers..when will it start? Nigerian Government doesn't care about our environment. Should such graduates in such neglected fields join YAHOO? no they must adjust.. i went and studied PC engineering from scratch and am a certified expert.. i choose to transfer that knowledge in class...you say "NO"? i wont pay N400k for PGDE instead of Masters..NO! 2 Likes |

The point remains that teaching is a noble profession but unfortunately, every Dick, Tom and Harry wants to venture into teaching as a pseudo-means of survival in this economic dearth the country is facing. Hence, making teaching to appear as job for the less privileged. Coming to the point made by the Director, I suggest the govt should first of all, elate the livelihood of teachers before placing these conditions above. Imagine a situation whereby someone collects less than 30k per month as a teacher, what's the threat all about? Highest the person will just find his way in another field of life. |

Funny enough my best teachers had no Education degree. They had BSc/BA/MSc/MA in their subjects or related disciplines. They knew the subjects well and able to pass on the knowledge. Many end up doing B.Ed because they didn't get into their courses of choice. So no motivation to begin with. |

Government having failed with proper educational planning and funding are now looking for solutions from the top. Of course it's about revenue generation. Non-oil sectors must fund budget to provide more money to fund all arms of government. All shades of 'teachers' will of course become TRCN certified; and the poor educational standards will continue! I have no doubt that the likelihood of people living an unfulfilling life in this country is many times more than living a fulfilling one. Only God is our only hope! 1 Like 1 Share |

RealityShot: Corruption in Nigeria have hindered growth in the Nation. Nigeria is a complex Nation, so is corruption. Ranging from the political organization, the religious bodies, the corporate organizations... talk more of the TRCN agents. The TRCN agents are Nigerians like you and I, when Government allocate funds for Developmental Projects, the agents next move is to share testimonies in their various Religious homes as they loot the funds meant to make life easier for you and I. Don't be surprised that Nigerians who complains about our Government being corrupt are involved in corrupt practices every single day, we only complain when not favored by the system. We can make it right, but the people who we are to join hands together to effect change are corrupt to the marrow. Our problems is so so sophisticated, majority Nigerians don't understand. 2 Likes |

Non Education graduate teachers are even better off without or without PGDE...So a teacher with NCE or B.Ed or both but not certified & licenced by TRCN will no longer be allowed to practice? With my B.Ed, I teach in a school with a gross take home of 15k. Where is d 15k to do TRCN registration & 9k every year for renewal? Meanwhile, people saying non education graduates are better off than education graduates teachers are d real problem of d nation's education system. Av u guys ever sit down after a chilled bottle of whatever u love & ask yourself, why was Nigeria's education much better & quality assured when only d professionally trained teachers were allowed to teach in our schools then( mostly public schools) Even with less qualifications like Grade 1, Grade 2, NCE etc & the English they spoke then was as old as d old building of d first pry sch in Nigeria. Someone also said, Non education graduate teachers are more motivated & education graduates av no motivation because they weren't fortunate to be given admission for their preferred courses? as in.... U think they were not doing anything for d period of 4 years doing education & teaching preparation courses? I tell you, most education graduates are so motivated to teach that they don't even want to take any better offer outside d classroom. Hence the reason even PGDE shld not be used to equate NCE or B.ed. PGDE is an inadequate short cut for with no job offer or opportunities in their original discipline & only cross to d classroom so hunger won't kill him. Tell me, those non education teachers with/out PGDE, if a jaw dropping offer springs up in their chosen field, would they reject the d offer & continue to teach? , Finally, Education graduates are poor academically yet, your fore father got a better quality education thru them While most of you taught by the so called brilliant non education graduates teachers aren't mostly directly unemployable into your own field? Imagine dt statement may even come from one Mechanical or electronical engineer who can't fix any fault however simple on his automobile or his electrical and electronic connection in his home. 4 Likes |

Those who are here protesting should go and direct their protests to the right quarter. December 31 has come to stay for the charlatans to be weeded out of classrooms. Teachers are made not born. All sides of every education debate admit that. As for the fallacy that non education graduates do better than their educated graduate counterparts, it's somewhat presumptuous to assume that you know about medicine than your doctor. It is a lie from those interlopers that have come to take what rightly belongs to teachers that have education degree. There's no way a dabbler in education will know the pedagogy better than those that were tutored in universities and colleges of education. These set of people that are here attacking the post are the ones that have spoilt the education sector. They are foisted with worksheets in private schools and yet they admit it just to keep their job. They are the ones that dance to the tune of proprietors no matter what. So many rots they have introduced in the system that I cannot say here. Other professions like law, engineering , etc. have their professional body and you did not complain. Now you are complaining of teaching that have provided PGDE that can accommodate you. In law, there is no such thing like PGDE. It is either you go back and start from 300-level or you leave it. Go to your field if you don't like TRCN. It has come to stay. We are tired of interlopers like you that have come to take what rightly belongs to us. |

Jubal01: Every situation in Nigeria is a pressing need. If they have union, the requirements of the Union should be met. Teaching is a very noble profession, but when we allow all and sundry to teach without the requisite requirement, we make a mockery of ourselves. We need to press so many reset buttons in several sectors in Nigeria. 1 Like |

RealityShot: You still don't get it. In times like this any Agric related course is even more viable than those big names. You don't know how much rice farmers are pocketing now. Rice na oil money. Even 'if' government doesn't care, does it mean you don't also care about your wellbeing? Granted you've already made mistake. What of your younger ones, cousins, neighbours, friends etc Will you allow them to make same mistake? That there's no job doesn't mean I have to carry injection and wear labcoat with stethoscope hung on my neck. What you are doing is impersonation and its against the law. Your justification is watery. That a university is offering a course doesn't make it viable. |

BabaIbo: And you are sure you aren't the greatest mumu? And who told that NCE or BA(Ed.) or BSc(Ed.) graduates are not better of the accidental HND or BSc whatever teachers? I'm 400% sure you can't take this same parochial opinion to the health or judiciary sectors. How dare you ask for license to practice in the court or hospital with your precious BA in English. It's not your fault at all. It's TRCN that "mumulishly" dish out license to the accidentally teachers. |

Let those who are attacking the TRCN boss go to the hospital to perform surgery or better still, go to Bar school with their precious BA in English or literature. Sincerely, if this what it takes to get rid of the accidental HND or BSc whatever teachers, then so be it. |
