LAGOS TO ONITSHA WITH EASE

By Tony Onyima

Concerned by the increasing complaints about the pains of Nigerians plying the Lagos-Onitsha route, I decided to seize an opportunity on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 to find out the real situation. For complete experience, I traveled with one of the transporters at Jibowu. After an excruciating traffic along Redeemed Church corridor, we finally commenced the journey to Onitsha at 10:30am. By the time we arrived the Niger Bridge, I had counted 60 checkpoints. I was painstakingly taking notes and few shots. These checkpoints were manned by either soldiers, police, customs, SARS, FRSC or a combination. Below are the locations of the checkpoints to guide your next trip to Onitsha.

The road blocks to the East are really annoying and I pity those they affect.

Ask questions nicely, ask even for the car registration docs or my DL and I'll willingly present them but police no dey hear word that's why they always chop slap. sad

I was on that road last week en-route Bayelsa. We are more safe now than before. Let the checkpoints remain. The police just have to be more professional in discharging their duties.

alas someone with sense. They always complain, must always have a reason to complain. Smh. They complain of highway robbers, complain about fulanis kidnapping them on the highway, they are still here complaining about check points again which is obviously meant to protect the highways. It's not as if, the corrupt officers will ask them(the travellers) money, it's the drivers that will pay it all if the officers should ask for bribe at the end.

So what exactly is these peoples' problem in life? Or are they just wired to complan every seconds of their life?

Too much bitterness in them.

The road blocks listed are all in the SouthWest and SouthSouth.

I know Igbos suffer from a victim complex, so I will conclude by saying only Igbos ply the roads and route.

The Yorubas who should ply the route within the SouthWest employ black magic to appear at their destination, while the Bini people of Edo employ witchcraft and fly in the clouds.

Only the Igbos transit on the roads, so the road blocks are deliberately to punish them.

This one is in agony and wailing in advance for the 2023 elections.

All he thinks about is 2023 presidential election, and the dilemma of the Igbos who with self inflicted animosity, have no support across Nigeria.

This is completely true. I travelled to Enugu early November n regretted that journey, the checkpoints are just numerous. It could even be more than 100.

But you didn't tell us if they extorted you, harassed you or simply stood on the road.

Nice work by the way

Don't derail the thread. Even though it was written by an Igbo, it doesn't mean the issue raised is an Igbo issue only.

Its really unfortunate. Most of them are targeting Igbo business men and their money.

Wicked set of souls. Its always sad driving the road honestly.

Is there any problem from them being on the way? Is it not for our safety? If they extort masses and motorists is a different things entirely which you can secretely record for government to take action. Are we not the one shouting robbers, kidnappers and fulanis have taken over our major routes, blah, blah..acusing buhari up and down? Joint security forces are back on our roads to protect lives and properties, but you people are still shouting. Please, op, try to conduct another research on how many armed robbers, kidnappers, ritualists and fullani herdsmen are being frustrated to operate along the same route because of presence of Nigeria armed forces and report back on this forum before we can take you more serious

This people's victim mentality and persecutory syndrome is neausating. Over 90% of the listed road blocks are located in the SW and SS and I'm yet to see a Yoruba, Ijaw or Bini person claiming the road blocks were there to persecute them.

You guys need to quit this idea of the world revolving around you, cos' no one cares about your existence
