if you give ballon dor to an individual who performed better than the rest throughout the season then simply messi deserves the award ,the numbers of goals he scored the. number of assists he made speaks a lot about his performance ,but if we use another guideline and criteria to determine the award winner like the criteria that includes the winner of the champions leaugue then it should be virgil van dik .but it would be unfair as ballon dor is an individual award that should be given to the best performer we should not include a group acheivement in the criteria to determine to award winner .
