I would first of all like to congratulate Lionel Messi. But I must say that there has to be established Criteria for footballing award ceremonies other than a bunch of prejudiced journalists and club captains voting.

I think they have to be clear as to whether individual acheivements should supercede contributions to a teams overall success.
I might not have the stats but Ronaldo had a better individual stat to Modric and contributed more to the success of Madrid but the World Cup was an excuse even if Ronaldo didn't do badly either. I wonder why WC performance was overlooked in 2010 when Xavi, Iniesta, Wesley Sneijder could have won it.
I could go on and on. Barcelona won a scarcely competitive La Liga trophy while Liverpool won the UCL and would have won the EPL if they weren't competing with Pep's City. Netherland even performed better than Argentina in 2019.
FIFA has to be clear and has to educate its voting populace.
In conclusion, I think Messi is largely profiting from the block votes from S.AME

Just to be clear, the Cr7-Modric situation is about the 2018 award ceremonies.
South and North Americans just need any excuse to not vote Cr7.
The Europeans have adopted Messi so he would easily split votes against one of their.

My bane is that there has been seasons were Cr7 outperformed Messi individually but Messi won because of FCB's success.

So my theory remains undisputed.

Please stop putting Messi in the Mess of last year Ballon D'or.... The politics was played out in Madrid intentionally.

How will you have a great season with a club and expect to win the award with another club? Does that make any sense to you?

Was Messi the one that stopped him from winning? Messi even came 5th or so, even though he was great individually.

I am a Messi fan and I know Ronaldo should win last year, something you people can never say in the case of Messi.... It was Madrid politics as a Madrid player has to win it.

If not for anything, Messi should be on at least 8th Ballon D'or if it's about individual performance and consistency. He always have a great season from the start to the end, and not those that pick up around February.

If not an insult, how will you even expect VVD to win when Messi is there? His winning hype was about UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE and he has already won the UEFA AWARD.

What does he do individually to win FIFA BEST or Ballon D'or? Mane and Sallah are Liverpool best players last season, not that media hype.

There was never a season CR7 outperformed Messi. All the individual awards by CR7 were based on trophies won by his team(s). If you compare the two greats on merits of individual skills and contributions to their respective teams, Messi should have clocked 12 Ballon d'or

please start listing the seasons..
Once it boils down to votes, you can't totally eradicate sentiments. The mere fact that you obviously side with Ronaldo and not Messi shows you're sentimental.
When it comes to making choice, sentiments plays a huge role..

And to answer your question, I am still surprised why he didn't win more..

Messi has been Mr consistent since 2009 to date.

Bro, you just shot yourself in the foot. The 2013 situation you are citing even gives further credence to my arguement. Ronaldo won because Madrid were the current holders of the UCL. Ribery's case was another robbery.

I must state that I am very objective. Messi is the most talented player on earth but performances vary from talent. Which is why recognitions aren't talent based (except explicitly stated). Messi's awards have left more players disgruntled than Ronaldo's. A few times Messi has won there have been raised eyebrows: Iniesta, Ribery and now VVD.
What I'm saying is that people feel Messi is the best player (talent-wise) and vote for him that year rather than him being the most outstanding player in the year.
He outscores everybody and does it with finesse but ends up coming short in terms of results and trophies and still wins.

I am just tired of seeing something so undefined.
