On Wednesday, 11 December 2019, Google released the results of its 2019 ‘Year in Search’, providing a unique insight into the year’s major moments and top trends based on searches conducted in Nigeria. Google’s ‘Year in Search’ results are an annual tradition that reveals the trending searches of the nation. Search trends information is gleaned from data collated by Google based on what Nigerians have been searching for and asking Google this year. Google processes more than 40 000 search queries every second. This translates to more than a billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide. ‘The 2019 Year in Search lists not only reveal the most popular trends from the past 12 months, but also give insight into the biggest events in the news, politics, sports, entertainment.
