Even in advanced countries there's a lot of debate on their safety. A single flaw in the process can wipe a whole nation not to talk of the long term residual effects. You should look up Chernobyl to have an idea. Nuclear disasters when they occur are not just hazardous to the environment but all forms of life.

Our leaders are living in the past...... we elect them.... and re-elect them.... so why are we surprised that they are making proposals and plans that were relevant 40 plus years ago?
