Pls not in this country with a very poor maintenance culture... and don't tell me about contracting it out to foreign experts to handle, naija politics will still mess it up. E.g national stadium in abj.

Nuclear energy is one of the safest they said...these senators seems to lack knowledge of nuclear energy

I get the feeling some extraterrestrial elements control these people.
Like I don't just think they r ok at all.
A country that cannot build a world class hospital, that cannot maintain a refinery wants to maintain a nuclear plant.

Imagine if paid sabotages try to destroy some parts of the plant..... Like the catastrophic extent will be unbearable

thats not even the main issue. Does our goverment have a track record of good maintenance and reliability? A nuclear accident's effect can last up to 100 years
That's the main Issue Nuclear fuel is the most expensive Energy source on earth, even the Uk can't afford for all of its power plants to be Nuclear, they can't pay!

Nigeria isn't ripe for a nuclear reactor plant yet... We can't handle regular plants... We want to start using nuclear energy?? Misplaced priority
.... Perfect the present system before moving higher

People should really try to inform themselves before making comments on nairaland. Read up and know that nuclear energy is one of the most efficient and environmental friendly sources of power in the world
Yes, with good maintenance, it is almost the cheapest, cleanest and most environmental friendly. But who will maintain it? Nigerians?

Note, on the converse, if not properly maintained, it is the worst nightmare a country can ever pass through.

I hope you know what a radioactive substance is? And what it can do?

Ever done X-ray? How long were you exposed to the ray?

Ever heard of transmutation? Hmmm.

it is actually the cleanest and safest since it cause no harm to our ecosystem.
But my fear is Nigerians, one day Dangote truck will just run into it and the next thing is history.
Do you really no what nuclear power station is?
Even in advanced countries there's a lot of debate on their safety. A single flaw in the process can wipe a whole nation not to talk of the long term residual effects. You should look up Chernobyl to have an idea. Nuclear disasters when they occur are not just hazardous to the environment but all forms of life.

Our leaders are living in the past...... we elect them.... and re-elect them.... so why are we surprised that they are making proposals and plans that were relevant 40 plus years ago? But then ....judging from sooo many comments.... too many of us are either also living in the past...or are plain ignorant. Is it in our DNA to leap before we look?...I seriously wonder.

Lol.

You obviously know nothing about radioactive substance.

So how do you think the nuclear energy is generated?

Infact, I don't need to say much cos you obviously have no idea what the concept "nuclear energy" is even about.

But get it into your skull, X-ray is one of the by product of radioactive decay and that radioactive decay is an integral part of nuclear energy.

you are a big fool. do u know what a nuclear reactor is? go and browse and see how it can wipe the whole nigeria even all the country around nigeria is not save if its not well maintained. Mumu.
Look at Japan for example
1. The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster was a nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Ōkuma, Fukushima Prefecture.

Deaths, cancer death attributed to radiation exposure by government panel.

Date: 11 March 2011

Location: Okuma, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan

2. The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear accident that occurred on Saturday 26 April 1986, at the No. 4 nuclear reactor in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, near the city of Pripyat in the north of the Ukrainian SSR.

In a country with very bad maintenance and Hazard management, its a no no bro.....Nuclear energy is no child's play.
Most nuclear plants are shutting down due to radioactive emissions leading to birth deformation and many other yet to be discovered disadvantages.

A country that couldn't manage ordinary National Stadium ,Surulere ,want to manage a nuclear power plant....please google Chernobyl in the old Soviet Union.
What do you know about Chernobly and Fukushima accident?

You complain of power issues and the best decision is being proposed, yet you go about talking trash of something you know nothing about.

Ghana is planning on Kickstarting one, SA is already building one, yet you don't see it as the solution to your power problems

Bro stop insulting your self. Fukushima accident was a Tsunami incident that happened near the reactor.

They are and were many power plants in Japan and Fukushima is currently rebuilt.

Each time you travel on air, you absorb more radiations than someone living 10km from a power plant will absorb in 50 years
