Nuclear power source in this Nigeria where nobody is ready to do what is right?

I was onboard an aircraft few months ago. As the entry door was being shut, I heard sounds of something being hit with hammer and I started wondering aloud. A co-passenger sitting beside me who was a regular customer of the airline told me it was the door that was being shut. Imagine the use of hammer on a hi-tech equipment like an aircraft. The PMB led federal govt you support 24/7 on NL, is following through' with the intergovernmental nuclear agreement with Russia, with Geregu in Kogi and ITU in Akwa Ibom earmarked for project phase executions.
DO channel your energies towards your paymasters and party, since they decide for the rest of us.

They don't know what they are doing at all, they have not studied the adverse effects of using nuclear power, they should compel FG to use solar energy instead.

NUCLEAR POWER PLANT CAN DESTROY THE WHOLE NIGERIA IN 5 MINS,,,,,
IS NOT THE BEST OPTION FOR A COUNTRY LIKE NIGERIA THAT LACKS MAINTENANCE CULTURE.

A KILOGRAM OF RADON CAN POWER THE WHOLE NIGERIA BUT MISHANDLING IS CATASTROPHIC.

Lol.

You obviously know nothing about radioactive substance.

So how do you think the nuclear energy is generated?

Infact, I don't need to say much cos you obviously have no idea what the concept "nuclear energy" is even about.

But get it into your skull, X-ray is one of the by product of radioactive decay and that radioactive decay is an integral part of nuclear energy.

In your bid to sound intelligent, you showed little knowledge of Nigerian power system. It costs about $10m to build 1000MW of Nuclear power plant. Now, calculate how many billions you have spent or spend every year without achieving any success.

One thing about Nuclear power plant is that it is built with care, not by ignorant people. It is build to sustain itself and short down. The only risk risk of a NPP is natural disaster, aside that, it's safer than the Villa.

Now, do you the difference between nuclear weapon and nuclear power plants?

There is a research reactor in ABU Zaria. It worked with enriched uranium for some years, and currently work with LEU.

Does it pose health issues? Yes. However, if you have ever flown on air, or smoked 5 sticks of cigarette, then you are probably endangered than someone living 50 years 10km from a NPP.

Nuclear fuel has never been a problem. A nuclear power plant works with Low Enriched Uranium(LEU).

You just need few to run for many years.

You should be concerned about nuclear waste not nuclear energy

For the emboldened, you should be concerned about that more than you are concerned about a nuclear power plant in Nigeria. Your risk is more than the risk of having one in Nigeria.

Countries that have nuclear technology, experience and have already been operating nuclear power plants for years are shutting down their nuclear power plants. Germany has almost shut all down. Nigeria that doesn't is planning to go into it while ignoring the enormous reserves of solar energy, gas, hydropower, coal and many more that can easily be processed to generate power. Our leaders keeps making and boasting about big plans that they can't achieve while they won't do anything about those little plans that can make a difference in the lives of the people. Poor leadership keeps killing this country.

- Senators agreed with the notion that nuclear energy is one of cleanest and safest source of energy in the world today

- Recall that the Nigeria and Russian Federation have signed bilateral agreements on nuclear energy cooperation

As the federal government of Nigeria presses on with its plan to diversify the nation's energy mix - with inclusion of nuclear energy technology from Russia, the Nigerian Senate has also called for the inclusion of nuclear power into the country’s energy mix.

This was part of the resolution reached by the upper chamber recently following a motion by Senator Tanko Al-Makura representing Nassarawa South senatorial district.

The Senate noted that the primary sources of energy for the production of electricity in Nigeria includes gas, hydro, oil and coal, with current power generation capacity of 7000 mega Watts.

The lawmakers noted that experts using modern energy modeling tools had estimated that for the Nigerian economy to grow at the rate of 10 percent, the country’s electricity requirement by 2020 will need to reach 30,000MW, and by 2030 it will be 78,000MW.

The red chamber agreed with the notion that nuclear energy is one of cleanest and safest source of energy in the world today and nuclear power generation does not produce greenhouse gases.

The lawmakers also hinted that they are aware that in 2006, Nigeria ratified critical treaties with International Atomic Energy agency (IAEA) Vienna Austria, with the aim of enabling Nigeria access nuclear power into the country’s energy mix.

Recalling that the Nigeria and Russian Federation signed bilateral agreements on nuclear energy cooperation, the Senate pointed out that the recent visit by President Muhammadu to Russia was a move in the right direction to stimulate implementation.

Worried that power outages in Nigeria have constituted the major constraint to the development of the manufacturing sector and negatively affect the cost of running business in Nigeria and ultimately the economy of the country, the Senate opined that unless the energy mix in Nigeria is broadened to include nuclear energy, the persistent power outages being experienced by the country will not be easy to address.

Accordingly the upper legislative chamber resolved to:

1. Urge the federal government to reposition the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority to enable it to carry out its mandate of ensuring safety, security safeguards and physical protection of nuclear materials including hazardous waste in Nigeria.

2. Urge the federal government to re-engineer, refocus and recognize the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission with the mandate to ensure timely contacts and negotiations with nuclear vendors for construction of nuclear power plants with time line.

3. Urge the federal government to expedite action on the Nuclear Safety, Security and Safeguards Bill currently with the Senate; and

4. Pass into law all treaties and protocols on nuclear energy as ratified by Nigeria.

Recall that in 2017, Russia's state-owned nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom and Nigeria signed agreements for the construction and operation of nuclear power plants and nuclear research centre in Nigeria.

Last month, African countries were advised to embrace nuclear research and energy to empower and grow their economies.

The advice was given at the African Nuclear Business Platform conference that took place on Tuesday, 15 and Wednesday, October 16 October in Nairobi, Kenya.

The conference gathered over 150 energy and nuclear professionals from across the globe.

This silly statement cannot stand the test of scrutiny when the nuclear source of energy is left in hands of those with some brain cells. The mere insinuation of allowing goons such as Nigerians to manage nuclear power plant is an act of homicide. If these dumbasses want to destroy some section of Nigeria, they can go ahead with such destructive dream. Few countries which are not in the same backward category as Nigeria are dismantling their nuclear power plants for alternative power source. It is even a serious headache for the advanced countries to store nuclear waste from dismantled station. Nigeria is extremely backward and cannot even manage ordinary and harmless gutter. One wonders on mother earth how the goons from shithole could handle any slight setback from nuclear plant.

In a country like Nigeria where corruption is the lifeblood that runs the place both in high and low places, building a nuclear power station may finally spell doom for us.
I trust those illiterates don't even know what nuclear power entails and what the slightest form of neglect can spell for the entire nation.
A visit to the Chernobyl nuclear site and the three mile island will tell the tale of what corruption or mismanagement of a nuclear power plant can do.

You may be right on your worries about SAFETY ISSUES, bearing in mind Nigerians legendary prospensity for short-cuts and tardiness but Nigerians are not from Mars and if we are to grow our economy, Power is the First Problem we must solve.

There are alternative sources of energy but take it from me that NOT ONE SINGLE INDUSTRIALISED NATION HAS BECOME INDUSTRIALISED WITHOUT HAVING AT LEAST ONE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT. NOT ONE, ANDNIGERIA WONT BE AN EXCEPTION.
Nuclear Power source is the fastest and the cheapest (in-terms of return on investment) source of electricity and we must embrace it, if we are to cross over to the league of industrialis(ing) nation or even "developing" nations.

What we need to do is to mitigate against the risks involved. Even Japan, despite their advancement and knack for dilligence, they still had "an accident", so it is not entirely about how dilligent we can be.
We just need to seek help, make sure we deal with saboteurs (Politicians and Civil Servants who collect Bribe to subvert safety measures, by firing squad!) and deliver a safe Nuclear plant.
I am not sure if Russia or China are our best options but we all know that the Europeans and Americans wont want us to have it because they see our development and advancement as innimal to their own foreign policy on theblack people, especially Nigerians because that would reudce the amount of influence they have on us and Black Africans in general, so going to them might also mean an endless wait for delivery, nto to mention their flip-flop on policies.
Maybe we can have a consortium of contractors from bot "East and West" such that the "East" (Russia/China) builds, while the West (Germany, Canada or another European company) Vets and ensure safety and rule-management.

But the bottom lin eis that we need to act fast and get it built, before looting Politicians who cannot deliver the Lagos Ibadan expressway since 1999., steal the money again.

When a country wants to go into Nuclear power, IEAE first gives them license to operate a Nuclear Reactor.

It's the first stage.
