Being a Minister is more lucrative than a senator. As Minister, Akpabio controls the budget of his ministry. So his decision to opt out is a wise and prudent decision.

Pdp should not sing their praises just yet. This might be a political tactics for them to go asleep.
The law is clear...Akpabio cannot withdraw unless...(he wishes to commit suicide on behalf of the party. grin grin) So no matter what happens APC votes must be counted in the rerun election.
Even though if I were Akpabio, same will be done by my humble self...a bird at hand is worth more than 4000000000 in the nest

The problem is if he contests and loose...meanwhile he has to resign to contest....with the uncertainty of APC Niger Delta power play as it stands vis a vis the presidency....

These Akwa Ibom state people wee_not_kee me just imagine this quote;

" Having not had any rebuttal either from him, his official media sources or his litany of online guttersnipes, we can now ascertain that the said letter emanated from the once revered former Governor, then-seemingly invincible Senate Minority Leader, recently defeated former Senator and now compensated and controversial Minister."

Some people mocking Akpabio may never achieve what he has achieved. Even if you dislike a person, stay on the issues. Stay on facts not lies. Our constitution allows substitution of candidates by political parties. 2. It is trite law that any public officer desiring to contest elections must firstly resign before he is eligible to contest. 3
A politician can withdraw his candidacy for an election and demand his political party to so replace him accordingly. 4. It is not until he dies before he withdraws. 5. Oby Ezekwesili withdrew before the presidential elections. 6. Hon.Ameachi was substituted with Chief Omehia. There must be a "cogent and verifiable reason" though for such substitution to be uphold. In this context, Senator Akpabio is absolutely correct to withdraw because already he is a minister of the federal republic of Nigeria. If na you nko? A bird in hand....... Besides, what is the point of writing an essay or rejoinder or whatever with loads of "grammer" yet missed the only point that was important, or would I say you infer lies just to mock someone. Education is not just going to school.
People can read your post and be educated on either policies of government or accepted practices or norms of the people as it were. That write up was in very bad taste. Unfortunate.

Absolutely. But faced with the option of chosen between being a minister and a senator, I'll opt for a ministerial position. Gov. Bala Mohamed, former FCT minister and present Governor of Bauchi state readily comes to mind. He had to relinquish his senatorial seat just so he could be made a minister by Pres. Jonathan. The viability of being a minister isn't even peculiar to our clime. Jeff Session had to relinquish his senatorial seat just so he could be appointed as Attorney General of the United State. Though he was later sacked by his employer, Pres. Trump owing to their differences. But the buttom line is that Ministerial positions are more viable than being a senator.

A Senator and Minister are almost same. Though cos a minister is a member of executive council, he is closer to the president and wields great powers over a whole federal institution. He gives contracts and could easily facilitate employment of his constituents in his ministry and other ministries headed by friends, u also easily travel abroad to meet counterparts. Your name is heard nationally and internationally almost daily. Soooo, On the surface, it seems the minister is better especially in a good ministry. Deiziani comes to mind. This notwithstanding, the President can wake up on the wrong side of the bed and sack you at anytime Even on the others of his wife. Even Maman Daura can facilitate your sack. Also, most ministers have less grip of the local politics back home.

On the other hand, a Senator is elected. No one can remove him. His four years is sure except if he is recalled by his constituents as attempted on Dino Melaye. He also has a better avenue to interact with the people and get a firm grip of the local politics through constituency projects and appointments of useless aides.

That said, take the position of minister to be a bank job paying you 200k monthly and that of a nurse in a Fed govt hospital recieving 120k monthly. The minister works more and his failure is easily seen. The senator does almost nothing but by sharing rice during Christmas and Sallah, he is praised and seen as a god. Also, while the bank can lay off the former over a flimsy excuse, the latter's job is almost always sure.

He Sen. Godswill Akpabio and illustrious son of Essien Udim LGA in Akwaibom state. He is widely regarded as an uncommon man by his people due to his good records and landmark legacy that he kept when he was the Governor of the state between 2007_2015. Sen. Godswill having seen he is a performer president Mohammadu Buhari GCFRN appointed him as the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. The absconding from the re-run of the Akwa ibom North west senatorial district is not because he is afraid of failing but he as chosen to serve the good people of Niger Delta which Akwaibom is part of the Niger Delta State.

Bringing in another candidate to replace him in the re-run is as a result of bigger assignment the Minister is assign to.

heartily Regards.

friend of Akpabio.

Akpabio single-handedly made many of these PDP guys that keep disrespecting him. But the fact still remains that, in Akwa Ibom today, no politician commands the amount of love, respect, charisma and goodwill as Akpabio.

A minister, amongst others factors, is in the corridor of power, hence, is by far more influencial and beneficial to his people. On the other hand, a Senator, particularly of the opposition party, nationally, is a no-body.
