How do you people manage to make a joke of a person's death? Have we lost all sense of empathy in this country?

My brother, life is hard in Nigeria. Don't make it harder. Everyone loves Phillip Osondu. Make joke of every situation, that's how we roll in Nairaland.

We are the craziest. Oby Ezekwelisi once came here, we bashed her just for some hours as welcome and initiation to our group. She couldn't withstand it she ran with her tail in between her legs. If you can't withstand the heat, then get out of the kitchen.

But generally, we are the best be it Flattinos, Afonjas or Almajaris.

Former Nigerian footballer, Philip Osondu has died in Belgium after taking self to the hospital to be examined on Thursday.

He was said to have felt unwell at work and decided to visit the hospital where he subsequently died. Osondu played regularly for the youth teams of Nigeria, but never reached the first team.

In 1987 he participated in the World U-16 tournament in Canada. Nigeria reached the final, but then lost on penalties to the Soviet Union. He got the World Cup Golden Ball as best player of the tournament.

I just felt it was wrong for papa like him to be tricking those kids in field.

Didn't watch him...but heard my parents sing his praises, especially Henry Nwosu....

The first real game I remembered watching as a kid was Nigeria v Cote d'Ivoire, s/finals Tunisia '94....Ended 2-all, Yekini converted the last PK.

There was nothing like Japan 85,it was China 85 and he was not of that set but the Canada '87 U-16 set and Saudi 89 U20 set..

Philip Osondu did play at the under 17 world cup in Canada. Before then he had been playing for falcons of Aba for God knows how many years.
He was primed to be a hit at Anderlecht in Belgium but after series of dietary and medical treatments for him to grow, rather than gain height he was said to be getting fat instead and that was how his cheat was exposed. He tried using the Saudi under 21 tournament to boast his career but he couldn't really click. He was said the have died aged 48. I think it is safe to add 20/17 years to that. RIP.
