The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is the elite League of Nigeria’s Football Federation, embracing the 20 most competitive club sides in the country. Its existence dates back to 1990 when a law came into effect to introduce professional football in the country.



It is managed by the League Management Company (LMC), a limited liability company incorporated as a commonwealth of the participating clubs and the Federation to give impetus to the commercial viability, professionalism and enhanced standards of the game.

Although more than 80 per cent of NPFL clubs are state owned companies, new regulatory requirements make at least 50 per cent equity in these clubs available to private investors.



The NPFL runs a 38 match day season with four clubs with the lowest points relegated at the end of the season while four clubs are promoted to join the NPFL from the Nigeria National League. NPFL matches enjoy good media coverage and following with SuperSport, a leading sports television pay per view channel providing Broadcast sponsorship.

OWNERSHIP STRUCTURE
The LMC is owned by the NFF and the participating Clubs. In implementing the FIFA prescribed Club Licensing Regulation, only clubs which meet the requirements and remain in the Nigeria Professional Football League at the start of the season shall retain shares in the LMC.

At incorporation, promoters of the LMC were allotted 25% shares in compliance with the provision of the Nigeria Companies and Allied Matters Act, 1990. Thus the NFA Chairman, as the representative of the association holds 5% of the allotted shares, whilst the Rt. Hon. Nduka Irabor as Chairman of the interim League Management Committee holds 20% in trust. The shares held by Mr Irabor on behalf of the LMC will be relinquished as soon as the Board of the company is appropriately constituted.

Abia Warriors FC is a Nigerian football club based in the city of Umuahia, Abia state. Between 2005 and 2010 they played under the name “Orji Uzor Kalu FC” in honor of Abia governor Orji Uzor Kalu

Between 2005 and 2010 they played under the name “Orji Uzor Kalu FC” in honor of Abia governor Orji Uzor Kalu who helped the club with state sponsorship upon promotion to the professional level. They reverted to their old name in summer of 2010.

They won promotion to the Nigeria Premier League for the first time in August 2013 after winning their division on the last day.

They have been in sublime form since gaining promotion into the Nigeria Premier League sitting in 8th position in the league table.




Adamawa United



Adamawa United is a Nigerian football club from Yola, playing in the Nigeria National League. They play at the Ribadu Square Stadium, with a capacity of 5,000. They were relegated from the Nigerian Premier League in 2007 after a one-year stint. They were relegated from the league in 2012 but bought back the slot from promoted rivals Makwada F.C.

Akwa United



Akwa United Football Club is a Nigerian football club based in Uyo. They play in the first division of Nigerian football, the Nigeria Professional Football League. Akwa Ibom Stadium is the club’s home stadium.

Akwa United was founded by the Military Administrator of Akwa Ibom State, Navy Captain Joseph Adeusi in December, 1996. The Government of Akwa Ibom State swiftly bought over the slot of the defunct NITEL Vasco Da Gama of Enugu when its management announced the disbandment of the club late November 1996.

They were relegated back to the Pro League Division 1 on the final day of the 2008–09 season by goal differential after Zamfara United won 9–0. Won their first major trophy in November 2015, when they defeated Lobi Stars of Makurdi 2-1 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, to clinch the Federation Cup



Enyimba


Enyimba International Football Club, or simply Enyimba, is a Nigerian football club based in the city of Aba which plays in the Nigerian Premier League. Enyimba International Football Club, or simply Enyimba, is a Nigerian football (soccer) club based in the city of Aba which plays in the Nigerian Premier League. Their name means People’s Elephant in Igbo language and is also the nickname used for the city of Aba. Founded in 1976, the club rose to prominence in the 2000s and is considered the most successful Nigerian football club as they won two African Champions League titles, six Nigerian championships and four Federation Cups since 2001.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah was founded following the acquisition of Gabros international Football Club by Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah. Chairman: Ifeanyi Ubah Ground: Nnewi Founded: 2015

FC Ifeanyi Ubah was founded following the acquisition of Gabros international Football Club by Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah. The Club was originally known as Iyayi Football Club of Benin City, before its acquisition by Chief Gabriel Chukwuma and renamed Gabros International Football Club.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah has its headquarters at 21 Nnobi Road, Nnewi, Anambra state. On the 6th of November 2016, the club defeated Nasarawa United FC on penalties to clinch a historic Federation Cup at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos. Since the split of Anambra State no football club from the State has ever won the trophy.

Jigawa Golden Stars


Jigawa Golden Stars Football Club is a Nigerian football club. They play in the second level of professional football in Nigeria, the Nigeria National League. Until 2007 they played in the city of Kano. After promotion, the team then moved to play its home games in Zaria, Kaduna State because of interference from Kano officials and their ground in Dutse being under renovation until March 2008.

Kano Pillars F.C



Kano Pillars Football Club is a Nigerian football club based in Kano. Their home stadium is Sani Abacha Stadium. Wikipedia Manager: Ibrahim A.Musa (Interim) Chairman: Tukur Babangida Location: Sani Abacha Kano, Nigeria Capacity: 16,000 Founded: 1990

Founded in 1990, By Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima former Chairman Nigeria Football Association and former sport commissioner of Kano, from the combination of WRECA FC, Kano Golden Stars and Bank of the North FC, Kano Pillars achieved outstanding success by winning the 2007–08 Nigerian Premier League.

Kano Pillars produced players like Abiodun Baruwa who has since played for Swiss, Austrian, Welsh and British Clubs and Sani Kaita who later plays for Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Another Prominent player is Ahmed Garba ‘Yaro Yaro’ who later plays for AB in Denmark and a notable player from Kano Pillars FC is Ahmed Musa who plays for Leicester City in the English Premier League after joining from CSKA Moscow.

It was registered as a limited liability company with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria, and then registered with the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) as a professional football club. The Kano Pillars drew an average home league attendance of 10,000 in the 2016 league season.

Katsina United

Katsina United Football Club is a Nigerian football club, in the town of Katsina, in Katsina State. Manager: Baldwin Bazauye (interim) Arena/Stadium: Katsina Township Stadium Chairman: Aminu Balele Kurfi Nickname(s): The Changi Boys Founded: 1994
Katsina United F.C were founded in 1994 and were promoted were promoted to the Nigerian Premier League in 1997, placing 12th in their debut season but were disbanded after relegation in 2001. The Katsina State Government began plans to resurrect the team in April 2008. The club was reestablished in 2009 and was renamed “Spotlights FC”, they debuted in the Nigeria National League for their first year. In February 2016, the team reverted to their original name, Katsina United. In October 2016, Katsina United won promotion back to the Nigeria Professional Football League, returning 15 years after they were last relegated.

They play in the second division in Nigerian football, the Nigeria National League after spending relegation in 2013 from the Nigeria Premier League, but were being promoted during the 2016/2017 season to the Nigeria Premier League. Their home stadium is the Kwara State Stadium, but played some of the 2010/11 season in Offa and Abeokuta as the ground was renovated. The club’s Acting Chairman is Alhaji Zakari Mohammed, who is the Governor of Kwara’s Special Assistant on Sports. Grounds: Kwara Stadium, Ilorin

MFM F.C


MFM FC is a Lagos-based Nigerian professional football club that competes in the Nigeria Premier League. The club is wholly owned by the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, a Pentecostal Christian Organization. In 2013, MFM FC took over the slot of Bolowatan F.C. in the Nigeria National League, the second-tier division in Nigerian football. The founder of Bolowotan FC, Toyin Gafaar, a Muslim, handed the slot to the church (MFM) to manage without collecting a dime in return. On 31 August 2015, MFM FC gained promotion to the Nigeria Premier League.

The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club of Lagos won the maiden edition of The Church World Cup. The Nigeria representatives achieved this feat after defeating the United Church of Colombia 7–0 in the final of the mudial which took place in Goa, India. MFM FC dominated the encounter from the outset in what would turn out to be a miss match.

Newcomers, MFM FC made their historic Nigeria Professional Football League debut as they shocked Solid Miners’ of Nasarawa United away by beating them 2–1 on tentative home soil at the Aper Aku Stadium in Markudi, Benue State of Nigeria. Former Sunshine stars of Akure player, Musa Newman got the first ever goal of the club in their NPFL romance in the 18th minute and Chukwuka Emmanuel’s second gave the debutants a two-goal lead, before Ifeanyi Nweke of Nasarawa United pulled one back.
