Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful Jesse Lingard can recover from injury in time for this weekend's game with Everton. by Joe Ganley
Lingard excelled in the 2-1 victory over Manchester City last Saturday, but has been unable to train since, due to a knock picked up during the match.
Solskjaer also revealed that he expects Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly and Tim Fosu-Mensah to begin participating in full training with the first team from next week onwards.
United geared up for the visit of Everton with a resounding 4-0 win over AZ Alkmaar.
“I'm not sure about Jesse, but I hope [he can feature],” Ole told reporters, after the Reds had secured top spot in Europa League Group L with a 4-0 victory over AZ Alkmaar.
“He wasn't training today, but we'll check him on Saturday probably. He's really come good now; he's been fit, he's been training well, so we hope so.
”Next week, Eric [Bailly] will start training, Tim [Fosu-Mensah] will start training, Paul will probably start training with us next week properly. So let's see.“
Only two players from the derby win remained in Solskjaer's selection for the Alkmaar game: Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial.
However, once United had gained the advantage – in a match in which we only required a draw to finish top of Group L – the manager took the opportunity to whisk the pair off.
Martial, Maguire and Ashley Young – who was also substituted – each headed straight down the tunnel, rather than taking a place on the substitutes' bench as normal, presumably for recovery work. Assuming they are injury-free, all appear likely to be in contention for the visit of caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson's Everton.
Fred, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford remained on the bench during the Alkmaar game, while David De Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Daniel James were given the night off, ahead of this weekend's Premier League duties.
