Does Revelations 21:7-8 teach that a believer can lose his Salvation and end up in Hell? What does the Bible mean by “He that overcometh shall inherit all things?”

The book of Revelations is a record of series of visions received by apostle John on exile on the Island of Patmos. Being a series of visions, the contents must be properly considered and interpreted using the epistles as guidelines since we all know that visions are mostly figurative.

That means to answer the above questions, we must look to the epistles for clarity in the explanations of those revelations or visions of John. To begin, let’s look at that passage and read out what John said he saw there.

Rev 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

To understand “He that overcometh” that he is talking about in that verse 7, let’s back up a little bit and read from verse 6.

Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

So from verse 6, we see that “He that overcometh” that Jesus was talking to John about in verse 7 is the same person who was thirsty but have drank of the Fountain of Life (Salvation) freely without paying for it either with money or his works. He received it FREELY without any cost at all.

This is the same person verse 7 said will inherit all things. Why? Because by drinking of the Fountain of Life (Salvation i.e the finished works of Christ), he has entered a union with God. God is now his Father and him His Son. Not because he did anything to deserve it (paid any form of prize for it) but simply received it as a gift.

In his epistle, apostle John also explained “who it is that overcomes” in such a way that it is clear as crystal. Here is how he puts it.

1Jn 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

1Jn 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

So from 1 John 5:4-5, we see that “He that overcomes” in Revelation 21:7, is simply the fellow who has believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour. Not necessarily the fellow who never sins after he is born again. No it is simply the one who has received the free gift of salvation that God has offered the world through His Son Jesus Christ.

What about verse 8 of that Revelations 21? now pay attention to the line of thought in those verses again. Let’s start from verse 6 of that chapter and go down to that verse 8.

Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Did you notice how that verse 8 started with “but as for” and he went ahead to describe the man who is the opposite of “He that overcometh” which he had earlier talked about. Remember that “He that overcometh” here is the one that has believed in Jesus as his Saviour from sin or the one who has drank of the Fountain of Life. Verse 8 description being his opposite would then be pointing to the man who does not overcome or the man who has not taken a drink from the Fountain of Life (Salvation). And that is the unbeliever today. He is the one that verse 8 is talking about that will be thrown in the Lake of Fire if he doesn’t drink of the Fountain of Life or overcome the world by His faith in Jesus’ sacrifice for his sins.

So looking at Revelations 21:6-8 closely, we see that “He that overcomes” that shall inherit all things and have a Father-Son relationship with God, is simply the one who has believed in Jesus’ sacrifice for his sins. Not necessarily the one who is perfect in all his thoughts, words and actions. This is further confirmed by the same apostle John who wrote the book of Revelations in 1 John 5:4-5. Look at that again.

1Jn 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

1Jn 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Having believed in Jesus as your Saviour from sin, you have crossed from death to life and will no longer end up in the lake of fire. This is what the Bible teaches. That is God’s promise and in it lies our Faith.

I hope this blesses you. Glory to Jesus, our Saviour and King!

If at the end of time and age you now dwell in the presence of God, you have inherited All Things. Nothing measures up to this.

Jesus Christ listed many things that overcomers would receive in Revelation 2 and 3.
Here the inheritance is summarized as “all things”!
Jesus Christ true followers are those who repent of sins and commit to overcoming them with God’s help.
They will no longer be liars or murderers or adulterers or those who break any of God’s laws.
Instead they will be believers, and this strong faith will give them the boldness to be courageous, not cowardly.

The most wonderful part of the inheritance is to become a child of God Himself!

What it means is that until you die, you are not deemed worthy to overcome anything, but there is probably nothing to inherit to begin with else most people would commit suicide instead of waiting to die naturally before going to 'heaven' to collect the so-called inheritance.

It's like this, before the emergence of God himself, there was a war in heavens. More like clash of the elder Gods. God and satan. And God won, emerging the ruler of all including principalities.

In the case of man, God place us here on this earth as God, hence we are to replicate this part of dominance. Contend with this forces themselves from within. ( i state within because indeed tge kingdom is within you).If we emerge following his guide (bible). We too take our place among the elder God as " overcomer" from eart hereon to the heavens.

Think of it this way before one can be immune to a sickNess he or she must developed immunity by being expose to that sickness. It's a form of combat with that particular sickness. Same with other phenomenon out there. There must be an outright confrontations with sin, such as pride, lust, greed, envy hate within the abuse of the soul and we must learn to overcome it completely. Not partially.

Anyways from the Bible stand point, all humans go to hell at death.... Hell there simply is a grave which can either be Hades in Greek or Shoel in Hebrew... Not a place of torment...cus those who go there don't know anything.. they re unconscious ( Eccl. 9:5,6,10).

But there is goodnews... Anyone who is in God's memories even if he dies and goes to hell will definitely be brought back to life ( John 5:29). That's the hope of all true Christians (The Resurrection)...

Believing Jesus Christ as the Son of God is the First Salvation- that is the Faith in Christ that saves us from from the First Death. The first death is a state of spiritual death for unbelievers and the carnally-minded. Where one is disconnected from a relationship with God.

The Second Salvation is where our Faith in Christ overcomes the trials and tribulations of this world. 1 Peter 6-9 It ends in the salvation of our souls. The trial of our Faith helping us to bear the Fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:21-22, 2 Peter 1:5-7 having overcome the power that compels us to do the works of flesh as listed in Revelations 21:8 and Galatians 5:19-21.
That is how we are saved from the Second death.

I pray that we continue to grow in Faith and that Jesus Christ meets us in Faith. Luke 18:8

Grace, Mercy and Love to us all.

To correctly understand what overcoming is, we need to take a look at the context of the book of Revelations established in Rev 2-3. The Lord Jesus directly addresses the 7 churches(all are truly believers, fully paid for by Jesus' blood, take note) and tells each He evaluates their works(deeds), not just proclaimed "faith" e.g.(Rev2:2,9,13..). This teaches us that as believers, we are judged and rewarded inheritance by the Lord according to our works, not our mere believing.
He goes on to set a clear standard for all churches according to where they were lacking in works, asking that they REPENT, wherever they fell short e.g.(Rev2:5,16,22...) and tells each that if they repent/overcome the shortcomings in their lives, they would be rewarded an inheritance e.g. (Rev2:7,17,26). In other words if we can meet up to God's standard(in works), after our faith in the Lord Jesus, an inheritance awaits us. Otherwise, none for us. God being the loving God he is in Rev21:6-7, goes on to tell us the secret to overcoming, we must thirst for the water of life and drink of it through which we will be empowered to meet up to all God's set standards, hence inheriting all He has for us. Which water of life, we can only thirst for, if we turn to Him with all our heart and soul, forsaking all else, in true faith(..hearten diligently...(Is 55:1-2). Whenever we do thirst, we will be given freely from the fountain of life.

You people should stop this false doctrine.. I keep seeing this rubbish Satanic concept coming to front page every sunday..
The concept that someone once saved can never go to hell is from the pit of hell, propagated by satanic men of gods..

If you are saved and you backslide and stop following Jesus, You will go to hell...

Please stop these Demonic messages.. Christians can lose their salvations. Read Hebrews 6

It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.
