The University of Ilorin has expelled 13 students of the institution for various acts of misconduct.

Registrar of the institution, disclosed in a statement released to newsmen.

Shr said the affected students were found guilty of various acts of misconduct such as examination malpractices or illegal associations.

She gave the names of the affected students as Lawal Ibrahim, Department of Geography; Ayanda Isaac, Department of Computer Science; Ajayi Monsuru, Department of Arts and Social Sciences; Ijagbemi Samuel, Department of Mass Communication; and Issa Namadu, Department of Computer Science.

Others are Odeku Oluwaseun, Department of Physics; Olayiwola Yusuf, Department of Mathematics; Ademola Iyabo,Amusan Kemi and Issa Ahmed, all of the Faculty of Education.

Also on the list are Ibrahim Ayobami, Statistics Department; Akanbi Adeyinka, Home Economics and Ikotun Felix, Department of Mechanical engineering.

Dr Oyeyemi said the affected students have been advised to stay away from the campus in their own interest.

I hope they are strong enough to accept their fate. I'm sure most of them made mistakes that can easily be overlooked, especially those caught in exam malpractice. It's painful but you have to move on.

Unilorin frown at misconduct especially exam malpractice, nothing like easily overlooked it only encourage other's to get involve and produce more half-baked students.

Examination malpractice is not a mistake because people expend time and effort to plan and execute it.

Sure, but not all that were caught in exam malpractices are dull students. Sometimes you might be sitting for an exam, you really read hard for the exam to the extent you are sure of A, you answered 9 out of 10 questions, you seem to know the last one but can't recall, you hard try to remember, just to fill in the last empty space, then you asked silently from someone beside you, and you were caught. Expulsion due to examination malpractice is too strict, it's just like death due to hate speech, I hope schools can find a better punishment for such offenders.

Academic dishonesty no get solution in Nigerian universities. Students copy each other in exams like it's the norm. Students copy assignments from wiki and other sites without citation like it's very normal. How will such students learn something.

Examination malpractice is not a mistake because people expend time and effort to plan and execute it.

It became a mistake when caught in the act, you might just asked for a clue to answer a question, and you are caught in the act. Expulsion is too strict a law for exam malpractice offenders.
