Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu on several occasions has stated that his administration will not condone one-way driving either from government officials or from commercial drivers. Mother luck ran out against a driver today at the popular Ebute-Ero bridge, the governor who sighted the vehicle from afar stopped his convey to personally arrest the driver, the driver on seeing the governor abandoned his bus and ran for safety.

The LASTMA official will have to tow the bus to their station and according to the Lagos traffic law, anyone caught driving against the traffic will have to forfeit his vehicle to the state government.

Under the Lagos Traffic Law, there are codes and rules for traffic.

Penalties for Neglect of Traffic Directions.

Where an officer of the Authority is for the time being engaged in the regulation of traffic on a highway, or where any traffic sign being a sign for regulating the movement of traffic or indicating the route to be followed by vehicle has been lawfully placed on or near a highway in accordance with the provisions of this Law, any person driving or propelling any vehicle, who-

(a) Neglects or refuses to stop the vehicle or to make it proceed or to keep to a particular lane or direction of traffic when directed to do so by the officer in the execution of his duty; or

(b) Drives his vehicle against oncoming traffic or fails to conform to the direction or indication given by the traffic sign, shall be guilty of an offence, and shall be liable on conviction for:
(i) 1st offender one (1) year imprisonment and forfeiture of the vehicle to the State;
(ii) 2nd and subsequent offender three (3) years imprisonment and forfeiture of the vehicle to the State.

(c) All offenders shall have their data and biometrics captured.

Danfo drivers are always insensitive to Lagos traffic rules. Government should conduct psychiatric test for them. Some of them are moderate and obedient but larger percentage are not law abiding.
There should stern and strict penalty for traffic offenders in Lagos . The productive time that Lagosians spend in traffic congestion is too much.

The driver can afford to run knowing that he is not the real owner of the bus. The real owner will now be at a loss coz of the carelessness of this driver.

Sanwo was also recently captured driving one way in Lagos ..There is nothing I detest like one way driving , if I had my way the penalty will be to exile the person
