Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu on several occasions has stated that his administration will not condone one-way driving either from government officials or from commercial drivers. Mother luck ran out against a driver today at the popular Ebute-Ero bridge, the governor who sighted the vehicle from afar stopped his convey to personally arrest the driver, the driver on seeing the governor abandoned his bus and ran for safety.

The LASTMA official will have to tow the bus to their station and according to the Lagos traffic law, anyone caught driving against the traffic will have to forfeit his vehicle to the state government.

Under the Lagos Traffic Law, there are codes and rules for traffic.

Penalties for Neglect of Traffic Directions.

Where an officer of the Authority is for the time being engaged in the regulation of traffic on a highway, or where any traffic sign being a sign for regulating the movement of traffic or indicating the route to be followed by vehicle has been lawfully placed on or near a highway in accordance with the provisions of this Law, any person driving or propelling any vehicle, who-

(a) Neglects or refuses to stop the vehicle or to make it proceed or to keep to a particular lane or direction of traffic when directed to do so by the officer in the execution of his duty; or

(b) Drives his vehicle against oncoming traffic or fails to conform to the direction or indication given by the traffic sign, shall be guilty of an offence, and shall be liable on conviction for:
(i) 1st offender one (1) year imprisonment and forfeiture of the vehicle to the State;
(ii) 2nd and subsequent offender three (3) years imprisonment and forfeiture of the vehicle to the State.

(c) All offenders shall have their data and biometrics captured.

It seems that this governor will make a good traffic warden. Ever since he took over governorship position of Lagos State, he has caught few danfo drivers driving against traffic in a supposed mega city where almost all the roads are in deplorable state and security forces pretending to be controlling traffic are smiling to the bank, particularly in Apapa axis of the State unchecked.
Traffic situation in Lagos (Apapa) is beyond what the governor can handle, therefore he should concentrate on issues that require urgent attention to bring succour to Lagosians who are inpatiently waiting to see him fulfill the promises he made during electioneering campaigns.

guy, my colleagues were caught on Friday last and Monday this week. They but cough of N200k n N60 respectively.

But the truth is that the entrance to Apapa is totally blocked by trailers. Yesterday I got to my office 10am same today because I have to follow normal routes. Fuel that is supposed to last me till Friday got to red today.
This morning when I got to top of Ojora bridge, I saw over 30 mobile policemen gathering in one spot because of what they want to extort from trailer drivers instead of ensuring free flow of traffic.
From reliable source, I heard the total blocking of the Alaka entrance to Apapa is now deliberate, so that people will have no choice but take one way and LASTMA n police pockets/bank account will be getting fatter, because all this fines are paid cash and not to the government account.
Lagos is apology my dear.
