It will still be paid by the customers.... Imagine something normally sold for N1470 now going for N1550 cos of POS Charge...

Its not a problem collecting it... but put it to good use, not embezzlement

And you expect the merchant not to transfer this fee to the customers. If that's the case then most them will eventually abandon their POS machines.

Whether business or customer, the customer will bear the brunt. It is either businesses factor in that cost in the price of goods and services or they stop using the POS entirely.

It's like Trump thinking tarriffs against China goods heading for USA won't affect Americans.

The CBN should also compel commercial banks to make quick reversals for failed transactions. They should be bothered that banks are irresponsibly flouting the laid down order.

Maybe no one should be charged?

You can't convincingly argue this is a beneficial policy.

Money that will still be transferred to the consumer....how does CBN guarantee the merchants make a profit of #50 or more from every #1000 transactions....common sense is that the business owners will transfer the burden to the consumers....very nonsense clarification from Low thinking CBN!

Meanwhile customers have been paying the 50 right from when it was announced. God help the common man in this country.
Re: CBN: N50 POS Charge To Be Paid By Businesses Not Customers by Angelfrost(m): 4:30pm On Dec 23, 2019
The customers and consumers will still pay eventually via increased cost of goods and services, which will be a consequence of the merchants trying to maximize their profits and refusing to bear any bloody charge...

So, nothing new done here... Usual fake solutions and smokescreens. tongue

I’ve refused to pay it and stopped patronizing businesses that tried to charge it.

The CBN policy was very clear but thieving Nigerian businesses try to take advantage of any opportunity.

All forms of taxation on businesses are passed down in one way or the other to the final consumer. Any primary 3 pupil should know that. What did the CBN staff think would happen when they made the policy?

I was arguing with an attendant at the filling station today... he insisted I pay the N50 if I want to use the POS and I told him it doesn’t work that way.. I later had to pay sha.. I no fit Dey speak too much English because of N50
Good you reconsidered.

Filling stations for example have been structured to earn fixed amount on their products while compliance is ensured by the DPR. POS was a tool to help the government's cashless policy and more suited for the convenience of the customer. So why should one expect a business to eat into its profits to remit a statutory 'Stamp Duty"for a service not more beneficial to it as it is to the customer? Doesn't make sense and is impracticable!

In due time, CBN would know just how sensible this 'clever-by-half' clarification is and how well it bodes for the government's cashless policy and act appropriately.

So wrong
The problem is that when u make law u don't think of it's impact , if I sell goods of 1000 and a customers uses pos and pay meaning that d value I will receive for 1000 naira goods is 950 I will simple adjust my price to 1050 so that d customer bears d burden.
Do u know that school fees now has been adjusted to this stamp duty stuff , some schools adjusted by 50 naira while some adjusted by 100.
Now who bears d burden the customer of course and this discourages online transactions as the price of paying by cash now is cheaper than transfers.
Fuel station will preference cash except you are wiling to pay d 50 stamp duty cos a fuel company cannot receive alert of 10 liter fuel as 1400 instead of 1450
This is just wrong , it could have been better if electronic transfers attract no stamp duty while deposits attract stamp duty , this instantly will make people move to electronic transfers

Analog government
