You're still here yapping senseless after you couldn't bring any proof of your empire claims. Are you not ashamed of yourself? You're here mentioning arts and demanding our own arts. Let me respond to that. Firstly, the notable Yoruba arts were the Ife works not the Oyo Kingdom. Nothing proves Oyos glory till date. No foot prints anywhere. No none Yoruba groups are practising any Yoruba festivals or bearing any insignia as a mark of Oyos one-time domination. For Igbos, our artworks are there too from the popular Igbo-Ukwu bronzes(the earliest of its kind in sub-saharan Africa) to the Nri Ivory Carvings. Our wood carvings are notable too.
As for trade, you can go and read up on Obi Ossai of Aboh(present day Ukwuani area of Delta state) and the palm oil plus other spices he traded with the British. He was heavily involved in slave trading and had to switch to agricultural produce after the British stopped the ignoble trade. I see that you've heard about King Jaja of Opobo but didn't know about him. He was a very smart business man who at a point controlled the trade at the lower Niger Delta after cutting off the Europeans from having to deal directly with the villagers and thus ensured that a more profitable bargain goes to the farmers. Majority of the agricultural produce traded at the Bonny port before and during the 19th century came from the hinterland (Igboland). The popular name 'Oil Rivers' was because of palm oil that came from Igboland. That the Nigerian educational system was silent on the historical feats of the Igbos doesn't mean that we had nothing. You can search the internet for all I wrote here.

Are you aware you didn’t answer my question what was your kingdoms achievements your mentioning Ife heads are they not Yorubas own
Your mentioning Jaja of opobo a non Igbo kingdom lol
You guys never did anything no one knew you

At least you know of a separate Ife kingdom , ijebu kingdom and an imperial Oyo kingdom there art works speak for them
The lingua Franca of all Yorubas is the Oyo dialect
If you live with us you will know
We had our own legislation judiciary and district heads
We also fought wars with Dahomey nupe Ashanti and edo and Fulani

But as for Igbo apart from onitsha has part of Benin kingdom no one knows about you guys that’s why a lot of Nigerians don’t take Igbo serious

Arguing with you would only make me stupid like you. And to make the matter worst you lack sense of history.

Meanwhile oyo empire was established on 12th century and it was collapsed in 18th century.

By 1680, the Oyo Empire spanned over 150,000 square kilometers. It reached the height of its power in the 18th century.
Oyo empire conquered dahomey and part of Togo. Many empires signed a treaty with oyo empire from been attack and free trade routes. Popular among them are, Ghana.
Sosso.
Mali.
Songhai.
Sokoto Caliphate.
Akan Kingdoms and emergence of Asante Empire.

However oyo empire grew to become the largest Yoruba state. It rose through the outstanding organizational and administrative skills of the Yoruba people, wealth gained from trade and its powerful cavalry. The Oyo Empire was the most politically important state in the region from the mid-15th to the late 18th century, holding sway not only over most of the other kingdoms in Yorubaland, but also over nearby African states, notably the Fon Kingdom of Dahomey in the modern Republic of Benin to the west.

In conclusion the fact that you ibos hate Yoruba, i think it doesn't make sense to undermine their accomplishments. This tribe has been blessed and God made them head over all thing's.

He’s an Igbo man
He will water down Yoruba achievements it’s in their nature
I hope we go our separate ways so we can treat them like foreigners I have no doubt Yoruba land will be super successful and it will be their wish to live among us

More ignorance-ridden statements. Have you heard of a man called Archibald Dalziel? Archibald Dalziel was a British slave trader who lived in the kingdom of Dahomey in the 18th century. Go and read the book he wrote on the history of Dahomey based on eyewitness evidence. You will find a free e-copy of Dalziel's book online. Dalziel recorded how the Oyo calvary overran the kingdom of Dahomey and forced them to pay tribute to the Alaafin. This defeat of Dahomey by Oyo did not happen once and it did not happen twice. They continued to pay this tribute until Oyo Empire began to weaken in the late 18th/early 19th century and Dahomey seized the opportunity to declare its independence. Read. It won't hurt you.

All Yoruba kings have different titles
The English or common name is Oba of anywhere
oba of Lagos is still eleko of eko
Oba of ijebu is awujale of ijebu
Oba of Ife is Ooni of Ife
Oba of Oyo is Alaafin of Oyo
Oba of Egba is Alake of Egba
Oba of Offa is Oloffa or Offa

Lol , stop being a clowm there was no general word for king in yorubaland because yorubas were never united to even let them know they had different kings elsewhere and they was a need to create a general word for king

If oba was original word for king then someone in the royal stool in yorubaland should have bore it as a title how come is only oba of benin that bore it as a title

King is use as a general term for Royal rulers does it mean it belongs to nigeria

Those sentence you made are simply English construct to replace king and nothing more

So you are not Benin but you've became a mouthpiece historian for them just so you can bad mouth another ethnic group? And you are quick to renounce your tribe's ties with Benin.

Oyo fought numerous battles with Dahomey including the first invasion in 1726 with the sacking of its capital city of Abomey and a second invasion in 1728. You should read the accounts of the notorious Brazilian slave trader named Francisco de Souza and how he was instrumental in helping Dahomey gained its independence from Oyo.

You are obviously not knowledgeable of Yoruba history, so stop misrepresenting your opinions as facts.

Unfortunately, all you have is an over bloated ego rooted on falsehood. You lack knowledge and have been a poor student of history because I remember your amiable teacher here, TAO11, tried so hard to make u learn but u are just a shameful failure who blames his fellow student for not allowing him to peep through and copy answers from their sheets.

So far, you have done more disservice to great Benin people and reputable history through your shallow egoistic driven hearsay and story telling (its not history) than good.

1.if oyo actually colonise up to dahomey.
a. Y did d white men name d bight at dat region d bight of Benin and not bight of oyo.
b. Present day benin Republic rename themselves after the bight of Benin which was actually named after benin empire far within the interior, why not oyo Republic due to its large influence.
c. Rumour has it dat before d renaming of dahomey d den president actually acknowledge benin and came to Benin..

2.If oyo was that potent..
a. Y oyo allowed their fellow brothers to suffer in d hand of Benin as vassal state.. Such as Ekiti, Lagos, ondo and part of osun.
b. Remember history has it dat d ibadan army were chase away by benin military from invading Ekiti cos it was their responsibility to protect their vassals.
c. There r evidence of urban ancient Civilization in Benin dat shows an empire once existed here, the walls of Benin, it's in d guiness world record book, and d amount and time estimated for it shows continuity for hundreds of years...

3.History has it dat oranmiyan left benin out of anger because he could not enter d city to rule, and left to form oyo..
a. Same history has it dat oranmiyan upon getting to oyo met some resistance bt he was so powerful that e single handedly conquered dem, why didn't e conquered those dat resisted him in Benin? You don't cause a war in ur father house..

Let's b sincere if u c d pics of wen Oba and oni at different occasion visited d olu, u should knw how wel d indigenous Nigeria kings knw d history better

They can't answer your questions because Too was never as important a regional force as they want us to accept. I sincerely have nothing against the Yorubas but it doesn't mean I'll swallow any stories they dish out without questions.
Oyo was never an empire. That's my conclusion.

The thread isn't for competition but for education. I'm not here to praise the Bini people for creating an empire. I simply recognize the fact that numerous facts are available to prove that Benin was an empire as oppose to Oyo. If Too was one time an empire, their footprints will be felt. That's my point.
