“We want independence and nothing else,” said Ivo Tapang, a spokesman for 13 armed groups called the Contender Forces of Ambazonia. Oh well you better win your war. President for life Biya isnt offering that. This best you guys will get unless federalism is pushed through. A war effort requires funding you're not getting. |

The roots of Cameroonian English speakers’ grievances go back a century to the League of Nations’ decision to split the former German colony of Kamerun between the allied French and British victors at the end of World War One. It is interesting they could've voted to be Nigerians instead or independent if they were given option by colonial powers. It would make for interesting what if stories. “The Anglophones, even the moderate ones, want a federal state. This law is not the result of a dialogue.. we were against it,” he said. Im guessing the francophone out voted you. |

Blue3k2: no,the way i remember the story is,they were giving the option to either join nigeria or cameroon.... their was no option about independence.... and back then, all blacks just wanted to be free from europeans at all cost anyways.... soo, they didnt care.... and i remember readin some parts even joined nigeria.... |

Independence for what ? because you speak English and other people are speaking French ? What a dumb move! Make a country trilingual ( French, English and Bamileke or another native language ) and move on . 1 Like |

panafrican: The issue is about governance as the article explains. English and French are already official languages. |

Blue3k2:Paul Bya 's endless tenure is not an issue to English speaking people in Cameroon only, it is also an issue to French speaking people. So why separate? Do you want those crooked international weapons smugglers to become rich again on African people's blood ? Remember Katanga with Moise Tshombe' in the Congo |

panafrican: Read the article some people want federalism abd others want independence to make their own decisions. It's similar to other independence movements. Freedom is free so blood will be spilled because a peaceful breakup isnt offered. Nigerians are the ones smuggling weapons anyway.
