1) Ex- President Jonathan supported himself by Igbo professionals/ politicians. He himself once declared that Ndigbo were the pillars of his administration. Indeed, the Igbos felt proudly to be deeply entrenched in the Government of Nigieria for the first time since the end of the civil war. 2) However in terms of infrastructural developments, he didn't do much even in his native S/South and in his support base of S/East despite having reasonable billions of Petrodollars. 3) In my own personal opinion, most Igbos (at least those on Nairaland, Twitter and Facebook) seems to prefer the first point above and uncomfortable about discussing the second point. Sonnyboom:In democracy the government however elected is the government of all. The tension you see in our today is because those who are in power have decided to treat certain parts of the country with extreme marginalization. Mind you a large chunk of the money comes from oil proceeds from the Niger Delta. |

Let's be sincere. Infrastructure wise, GEJ was a monumental failure as far SE is concerned. I don't think there's anymore strategic road other than Enugu-Onitsha, yet for 5yrs of GEJ, and unprecedented inflow of petrodollars, it was a eyesore. I passed Umuya stretch a few days ago and found myself saying a silent prayer for PMB. What would take close to 30mins aching gallops and dust inhalation (those familiar know what I'm talking about), I breezed through the newly asphalted road in less than 5 mins. Just that PMB too dey fall hand sometimes. . . |

Kpoikpoi:Oga you are wrong, Buhari campaigned in each state of the south east both in the 2015 and 2019 election because they are important to him. Except you are trying to say that Buhari was foolish to have done that. Dont talk ignorantly, Its better you condemn a post with facts than what you ve written. Your comment here is capable of derailing this thread and the whole discuss will go back the usual tribal war and i dont want it . pls maintain discussion in line with what is being discussed.. Thanks |

PicLtd:Nnamdi Kanu started his mission abuse of the north, the southwest and some other tribes. He failed to keep to the bail condition thereby heating the country. He was cautioned by Ohaneze and SE governors to take things easy but he refused. Some other Igbos tried to control them but they refused Gradually they formed their army. Buhari had to do at that point what he did being an ex General to save the country from plunging into war. A civilian leader may take different steps. The problem of IPOB is that they are too stubborn and behave like touts. They hate to be opposed but they like opposing others. The ones in nairaland and motor parks are the worst. So filled with hatred. As for Buhari's appointments i will say its lopsided. The one of security heads appointment is bad. |

Nwadiuto247:You seem to have harsh words for IPOB for being reactionary but soft words for Buhari their chief instigator. Yes nepotism, cronyism, irridentism are big instigators of political inflammation and violence. People have gone to wars for less, govts have been toppled for far less. A Motherhen will always identify it's chicks. Use your tongue to count you teeth. Good bye. |

alezzy13:GEJ actually did a lot for the SW and the North infrastructurally because they were on his neck from day one. We still got an International Airport and he not only approved the Second Niger Bridge but put enough funds down to build the thing through the NSIA. |

I do not agree that appointments lopsided against us Igbos any more than one would expect from a region that delivered very few election victories for the ruling party should expect. You see even if Buhari wanted to be completely even-handed in appointments and allocation of projects it would be an uphill task if not near impossible. Why? Because who have got his ear? The people closest to him from his region that worked hardest for him to win election. The elected APC lawmakers would also carry more influence in advising president on appointments and prioritising projects. The APC members of NASS Buhari will need to be on-side, for smooth implementation are almost all from North and SW. So these people got more bargaining power and influence, to suggest who Buhari appoints to juicy positions such as minister of works. The SW who helped deliver the ruling govt, got the minister of Works and consequently have the most Road construction. Even with the railway Amaechi who is minister of transport comes under pressure from APC filled with elected Northern and SW politician and bigwigs, to prioritise railway construction in N and SW. Was the Lagos-Calabar rail project not removed by NAss leadership from the 2016 budget proposal and Buhari had to insist on its inclusion before assenting to the budget bill? |

Nwadiuto247:Your not saying the truth, the second niger bridge was started late 2013. Little journey used sand excavated from underwater pile by juliius beger, to fill up his flooded lands at atani Rd. underwater rod layerings started early 2014, and by end of 2014, the pillars you see today have already been erected. if gej had continued in power, the completion of the bridge would have been history by now. |
