Please Is Planting Of Beans Really Profitable? by my2chains(m): 6:47pm On Dec 26, 2019 |
I keep on wondering why people hardly discuss planting beans here in this forum please is it really profitable because i will like to try my hands on it? the little i have researched showed me that beans dont need too much water and it can grow well even when not taken good care of, but i keep on wondering why people hardly plant beans for a living they say only the norths plant beans but am wondering how come, beans take little space to be planted onlike other plants but it tends to feel like no one cares about it is it that beans is not profitable after harvesting it or is it that there is no available market to go and sell them? or maybe the harvesting and peeling and shiftering process is too hard, i just keep wondering and poundering on my mind why people dont go into beans farming is the growing proccess too long and tiring? i dont know if someone here can enlighten me on this so i can think otherwise thanks |

Beans is not profitable nowadays, iam a beans farmer in Niger state but I will not farm it next year because of two reasons 1- low selling price, currently the price of 100kg bag in Niger state is less than 13k while before is 20k upward.2-the yield per hectare is very low,I planted three hectare this year but I only got 22 bags. |

shariff84: ok thanks but how much did it cost you planting beans in the whole 3 hectares? You stay in the north where foodstuffs are more cheaper but someone who stays in lagos will gain more selling it how many months does it stay before you start harvesting them? And is the buyers available already or you are to source for it yourself 1 Like |

shariff84:this is an interesting input from a beans farmer,so 1plot of beans will only yield half bag of beans worth roughly ₦6-7k in 3 months, beans is not a high value crop and it's meant for farmers with access to huge tracts of land and cheap labour. 4 Likes |

shaggy007:not true,if you clear 45 plots and prepare it and plant it with beans in the south and after 3 months you get 22 bags and sellll double ₦26k,and get roughly ₦500k,you will still lose money on top of your suffering.if you like try.you can't even get up to 15 bags in the south. 1 Like |

shariff84: I am also a Beans farmer and I planted 2 hectare and got 3 bags of 1000kg bags after spending about 160K. If you can get a variety with less shaft, mechanized planting, weeding, boom sprayer, threshing machine, sifter and large tracts of land, you may turn a profit. As of now, I don’t think I am doing Beans without any of the aforementioned 3 Likes |

Degis:is it 1000kg or 100kg,if it's 100kg then it's a big loss, why can't you do pepper on 1 hectare, blanch and dry it for grinding ,the drying will help you store the peppers because the quantities of peppers that will come from 1 hectare maybe too much to sell off immediately without spoiling,so the drying will help to check excess and process even damaged ones and sell when the price is very high, pepper is one veggie that can be dried, processed and stored and the value will still increase,if in doubt go to the nearest market and check how much they are selling one painter of dried ground Cameron pepper you will be surprised. 6 Likes |

shariff84:in my area a woman laborer daypay is #1500 while men are #2000,so if 5 women will do the job that is #7500 +#400 feeding per person and #1000 transport,so you will be looking at spending at least #10,000 per day for 7 days and you will weed twice that will be roughly #140,000k just weeding, let us leave the insecticide and others that will be applied, sprayed, etc for another day. |

okoroemeka:but in the north I only paid 30k and 5k for feeding the whole job.lolz |

my2chains: I am a Farmer and I farm both white and brown Beans every Year. I must tell you this. Beans is very profitable for farmers. It is also easy to farm. Unlike Rice, Ginger etc. Beans does not like too much rain, that's why it is farmed towards the end of the farming season. It is also pron to attack from insects due to its highly nutrients. But there are chemicals that are used to protect the Beans from insects attack. Below is a video of my Beans farming from the planting stage to harvest stage. If you need more explanation and videos to help you in your Beans farming, coment on the video on YouTube and I'll respond to all your enquiries. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpIpjuW1JrM |
