I am really disappointed in how Arteta managed this game and please no one should tell he is new because it does not excuse the blatant mistakes in reading this game. After the draw against Bournemouth, I figured recovery would play an integral role, especially since he was implementing the press effectively and hoped he saw the same thing I saw. He should have provided some balance in how much we were pressing without the ball considering the lazy players are not used to such.
It is very obvious Guen should not be starting for this football team at this time because he is far from ready. At this point, I just hope we are able to hold on to Xhaka until summer because pairing Guen with Torreira will be catastrophic. Guen should have not started the 2nd half, considering the obvious and how he finished the game is absolutely annoying to say the least.
His substitutions did not instill any confidence that he was reading the game properly. Willock should have come in for Guen and Pepe for Lacazette or Nelson but he chose to remove Ozil and everything fell apart because we lost balance. As for @Sod’s MCM, the less said the better, he has to go, I would rather we play 10 men than watch Mustafi or Guen on the pitch at the same time.
Wednesday is by the corner and I am really worried about how Arteta will utilize the press. Credit to him, we are playing more aggressively on the offense and the press looks coordinated when we utilize it but he has to be smarter at reading it. Lampard made the same error in his early days and I think he just baited time because he knew we would get tired from the press and surrender possession to Chelsea.
@bolded... Exactly my thought too

The bolded is my fear too. I hope they will persuade him till at least Summer. Like I opined, guen needs to be taught the basics of cm role or b2b role. Xhaka and maybe ceballos should be pairing with toreira. Torreira was just the only one in midfield after ozil sub.

lacazettes should be sold and a proper RW winger should come in this January, while willock and guendouzi should join nkeitah on loan in Leeds United angry

hopefully the sale of xhaka can pave the way for a quality DM that will pair Lucas torreira, that little man was just alone in that midfield today, while that Jerry curl boy was busy running like a headless chicken angry

What y'all are failing to realise is that, we have no bench. Nelson is ahead of pepe for a reason. Why? Because he tracks back and cover for Niles, something pepe doesn't do. Pepe should have been aware by now of what is required of him and put in the shift. All the showboating won't cut it.

It was obvious that Nelson improved after the Bournemouth game. Mustafi and Jerrycurl should f**k off. We've been really unfortunate with injury.

you have a point about Nelson tracking back but you know if Pepe had entered earlier Chelsea will also be conscious of Pepe speed and won't commit forward like they did.
Removing ozil was a bad option too

The players were all exhausted because of the style of play. The style of play requires lots of energy, something this Arsenal team isn't used to. When Klopp came in to Liverpool, it took him 3 years. Pep? A year and $$$. Chelsea had a better midfield yesterday that's why they dominated, simple! Even the delayed substitution was attributed to no players on the bench. Look at willock that was brought in, he couldn't contribute Nada. Chelsea's had more quality and a coach that has been there for months compared to one that has barely settle in 1 week. I expect us to start discussing what lies ahead and not a game we should have won yesterday.

Rival fans can laugh all they want, but they can't deny what they saw. True we have no money, but if we spend wisely, Arsenal will be another Liverpool. The board got Arteta's appointment right. I wasn't all for Arteta when I heard the news that we were hiring him. But with what we've seen, we play a more beautiful football than Wenger's. Why? Our play is direct, unlike the pass me and pass you Wenger likes to play.

I want to assure you, if Pepe had started, it would have been worse. Maybe they would have scored earlier sef. Pepe who was fresh against a tiring back line could barely do anything, is it wen all the back lines are fresh? He couldn't peg them back with his speed when he came on, what made you think he would have done that at the beginning of the game?
He needs to improve to be sincere, if not he'll turn out as another high price flop.

Removing ozil from the game really killed our midfield totally. Also, why lacazette finished that game is still beyond me. He was literally gasping for breathe as of 60+ min

I suggest we bin Lacazette for more cash. Nigga didn't live up to expectations. Just another flop in my opinion.

Seriously, I don't know weda binning him now is the right option. He might going through a rough patch now, who knows, with time during the season, he might be a top player for us, this I won't classify him as flop yet. I just want him and auba to fight for the sole spot, then we get wingers and midfielders.

Lacazette is good for pressing while Aubameyang gets the goals. Hence the decision to play both. If we had a proper LW (I have since asked for Pepe on the left), Lacazette can be a sub for Aubameyang or give us more options. Secondly if Xhaka isn't playing we will need a more experienced DM. As good as Torriera he is not big enough to last a full game with equal intensity.

Arteta Vs Lampard

Arteta got his tactics spot on, in fact as at 30mins I was confident we would win by two goals margin. But Lampard got the better of him due to poor game management caused by lack of experience. At 1-0 with 20mins to go, he ought to have brought on changes to tighten the tiring midfield and ease the pressure.

Wenger would bring in another fullback send Monreal to CB and end the game. Arteta could have taken off Lacazette and Nelson, throw in Pepe and Willock (if he wishes) but this must be done before the 75th min.

I sincerely hope this match would have added some vitamins to his tactical nous. So that at least we can get something out of the next game.

One thing though is that there was a big improvement in our play.

If that stupid ref had sent of Jorginho we probably would be singing in a different tune. The reason why VAR isn't enough. Hope that ref gets relegated.
