2023 presidency: Caution Shettima, Igbo group tells Buhari

Chidiebube Okeoma , Owerri

A pan-Igbo group, the Igbo National Council, has urged the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd.) and other northern elders to caution the leader of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Yerima Shettima, over his comments on the 2023 presidency.

The INC president, Chilos Godsent, who spoke in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Monday, said Shettima’s utterances on the issue, were capable of causing crisis in the country.

The group said that video clips and press statements quoting Shettima as saying that 2023 was not the right time for the Igbo to produce Nigeria’s president were “dangerous” and threats to the nation’s progress.

Godsent said, “President Muhammadu Buhari and the Arewa Consultative Forum should call Yerima Shettima to order before he throws Nigeria into a political crisis.

“The attention of the Igbo National Council has been drawn to a recent inciting video and press statement as published by the Punch Online credited to Yerima Shettima, stating that 2023 is not the right time for an Igbo person to be President of Nigeria.

“Yerima Shettima is the purported leader of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, who, some years ago, issued a quit order to Igbo people living in northern states of Nigeria.

“The same Shettima has, in recent times, been misinforming ignorant Nigerians that the North has made more sacrifices than any other part in building Nigeria.

“We wish to use this opportunity to set the record straight and properly educate Yerima Shettima and his co-travellers on the wrong part of history, that since the creation of Nigeria, no tribe, race or group, has made more sacrifices in building Nigeria than the Igbo race.

The Igbo race has invested unquantifiable human and material resources to keep Nigeria alive since its creation even to the extent that we lost millions of lives during the genocide of 1966.

“Till date, our mineral resources are being plundered and used to fund the North.

“Consequently, in the spirit of reconciliation, fairness, justice and equity, the only geopolitical zone that is most qualified to produce the President of Nigeria in 2023, is the South-East zone.”

Igbo kind of politics is funny for real. Always caiming slots like blessing and never see reason to strategize in real world.

My concern centers on the crappy name of the president of the so-called Igbo National Council. This jest of a name, Chilos Godsent, is found among goons of counterculture. Who would associate this joke with Igbo? In real life, you are what you wear.

They are stupid.

I wonder how the whole world is yet to know how confused Igbo are.

The other time this guy was attacking Tinubu and Yorubas they are hailing as of he is there next saraki/ATIKU/fayose and FFKgrin

by the way,the confused hypocritical lots have forgotten that this guy never supported Buhari in 2019.HE SUPPORTED THEIR HAUSA FULANI MUSLIM SLAVE MASTER ATIKU and they were happy with him!

Had it been ATIKU won 2019 election will they have the gut to discuss possibility of Igbo presidency in 2023?

I hate it when the only political weapons a Tribe has are EMOTION AND HATRED!

Yoruba did the same thing after Mko was killed. They even unleashed OPC thugs on hapless Nigerians. That was how they got the presidency. They never got yoruba presidency with 100% diplomacy.

Stop lying.

Obasanjo was in the prison and no amount of thugs could have taken him from the grip of soldiers in jail to Aso Rock.

Go to the archives and read concord newspapers, daily times, punch, TNT newspapers published after MKO abiola died and see how yoruba journalists were demanding for presidency without diplomacy like it's their birth right.

Same thing they are accusing Igbos of doing today.

They demanded for it based on their alliance to MKO and his ordeal at the hands of the northern military clique. Igbos want theirs because they feel entitled as a major ethnic group. Two different things. Has any Igbo man's victory been annulled? Answer me.

Mko was one man, yet you believe you have the right to demand presidency. But a genocide was commited on a major ethnic group but you think you have the right to shout them down for demanding same appeasement.

If you like taunt, insult, goad, do whatever you like. The truth remains that this country has not been fair to Igbos.

Thank you.

Is presidency now a reward for genocide? This is what happens when you make enemies with everybody o.
Your reasoning is cataclysmic at best.

Yeah....same old 'everybody hates Igbos and love we yorubas' make-me-happy tales that you tell yourselves at Alaroye newspaper stands.

Are yorubas friends with everybody? Do the SE and SS see yorubas as politically reliable? No!

Will the SESS region vote an Igbo man over a yoruba man today? Yes!

Even the north is kicking you in the arsz on a steady basis. See what they did to Sowore (whom you stripped of his ethnicity due to cowardice), see how almajiris practically kicked Deji up and down like felele football and pulled his panties on live TV.

Are yorubas not the prodigal child and minority of the general south? Yes they are!

Run along boy, everybody don see una finish.

That had to happen to teach those who are willing to learn, that Yoruba is not to be taken for granted. And it might happen again soonest because people seem to have forgotten that experience. Hausa-Fulani and Igbo share the similar mindset of perceiving diplomacy as a sign of weakness.

I can see how hard you are trying to turn this into a "Igbo vs Yoruba" conversation. It will never be one. You can tag me whatever suits you and recycle the usual Nairaland Igbo-vs-yoruba jibes. Have a nice day and think more about having alliances instead of enemies.

Lol these guys are funny, have they read many of the reckless statements made by many Igbos online yet his biggest problem is Yerima saying 2023 is not right for Igbos.

Where was he when cownu was making threats against the president?

They want quota system Presidency for their elites while merit system for the mass the masses.

Alright. Just try to resist the urge to act as antagonist against us when that time comes. There is now a significant population of Yorubas that identify as conservatives. And I am one of such. To us ('Yoruba conservatives'), Hausa-Fulani and Igbos deserve to be treated the same way.

Oga nothing go happen. Yorubas no longer enjoy the camaraderie of the general south and middle belt.
They are Isolated. Easy pickings for a brutal regime if they start an insurrection.
Sowore and Deji have been made examples. Sowore is now mute like a dove, while Deji is spending Xmas and new year on a sickbed with a broken skull.

I would like to know what Deji thinks of one Nigeria when he comes back from his sick bed in dubai after insulting MNK for not trying to reason with Almajiris on the issue of Biafra.

You really think that I got time for all this Nigeria vs Biafra shit. I am only telling you that If Igbo ever repeat what the likes of Prof. Nwabuaze did during the Abiola saga, we 'Conservative Yorubas' will ensure that you guys pay dearly for it. If you are in doubt and are convinced that Yorubas are cowards pray hard to your god that Yoruba vs Hausa-Fulani relation deteriorates into a chaotic situation, then if you guys are man enough give even subtle support to the North.
