I've got coarse hair that's difficult to comb unless I thread it.

Kindly share softening tips.

Are you a Male or female? If you are a Male chop the hair off and if you are a female perm your hair or braid it. Wash your hair every week and look for Kantu hair softener. Keeping natural hair is not for everyone as coarse hair can cause serious migraines headaches and eye damage.

If you have the money, go for cantu hair products. Especially their leave-in conditioner. Its da bomb.
Re: What Are Your Tips For Softening Coarse Hair? by stance(m): 4:31am On Jan 08, 2020
You should use Allure leave in conditioner. It is not as expensive as Cantu products, and works very well. Then you come back and thank me

Unless every single woman on earth spends that much time on their hair, then I don't know what blind point you are making.

You would have spent an average 26000hrs making comments like this by the time you turn 50yrs old...that's 26000 unproductive hours of you life.

Even saying nothing at all is more valuable
You would have spent an average of 15000hrs opening multiple accounts on Nairaland and using them cowardly to make comments by the time you turn 50yrs old...that's 15000hrs of exceptional cowardice in your life.

in naija maintaining afro is very costly for the average naija guy oooo.u forget that is overseas where u can get cheap good hair products for maintaining your afro cheesy.the best the average naija guy can do is shave all his hair and leave his cranium bald grin.the lucky ones that find it hard to grow hair on their cranium will rub palm kennel oil or vaseline on top their bald cranium to make it glow like Glo cheesy cheesy.

Funny enough, going to the barber twice every month might be more expensive than keeping afro.
Ok, let's break it down.
On avergae, the cost of a haircut is 500, which neans in a month one is spending 1k, right?

Keeping afro...
Relaxer... 1500
V05 Shampoo...700
V05 conditioner...700
Shear butter...depending on qty you need, maybe 500
Total=3400.

Now this is where afro might be more economical.
After relaxing your hair, you're not meant to retouch it again until after 3 months, which means you've skipped 3 months of barbing which will usually cost 3k.

Shampooing and conditioning can be done once or twice every week, which means both products can last upto a month or more, depending on your usage.

As for the shear butter...
That one no dey ever finish.

So as you can see, keeping afro isn't that costly to maintain.

Conditioner...conditioner...coconut oil...Shea butter...good luck.

I will like to add to this..

Coconut oil is the truth, I have used, still using this oil and will continue using this oil. It's not only good for one's hair but also skin, plus it has a sweet smell.

Please when buying coconut oil, go for the transparent type (cold pressed and unrefined), as it retains the much needed nutrients, if not all, and retains the coconut smell.

Avoid the light yellow or tinted yellow type of coconut oil, as it has lost a portion of nutrients embedded in the coconut, because of the application of heat to derive the oil (hence the name refined coconut oil unlike the former that doesn't use heat but applies the cold press method to derive the oil), plus it smells funky (it has an irritating smell).

The cold pressed coconut oil is more expensive compared to the refined coconut oil.

Cold press coconut oil costs between #1900 to #4000, depending on the maker, for a 500ml container.

Refined coconut oil costs between #1500 to #2500, depending on the maker, for a 500ml container.

The seeable difference in the two, lies in the colour of the coconut oil.

I have noticed that most of us men don't care about personal grooming. If your hair is l stubborn, most men would simply cut it low instead of looking for a way to make it soft and style it in a way that looks better.

I am not one of those men. I love my hair. So I do the following:

1. Relaxer: This only softens it. I comb my hair while the relaxer is in it. It trains the hair to allow me comb in that direction. Please note that my hair is so tough that you wouldn't even know after I applied relaxer, once it's dried. The main effect is that is much easier to comb for the next 1 week or 2. I use ebony relaxer, it's cheap and it helps darken my Grey hair.

2. Conditioner: I recommend leave in conditioner. Be very generous with it. But buy one that you like the smell. So that'll encourage you to use it. Apply generously to your hair then use a big enough comb.

3.Comb at midday: if your hair is as stubborn as mine. Combing once a day may not cut it. Put a comb in your car, laptop bag or pocket so you can quickly use it during the day. You simply entre a rest room and comb your hair, it's allowed.

For those of you that would say I am less of a man for doing all that. Don't worry, I agree with you. Yall are the real men. I am the man that likes my hair and how I look.

Blushing...I'm so inlove with this comment .

1. What gives you the impression that I am bothered by your assumptions about me enough to want to deny, confirm, or explain anything?

2. Why do you even care in the first place?

The hair doesn't need to be "softened." You're probably looking to detangle it easier and moisturize it. The issues you have are likely from exposing your hair to harsh conditions and chemicals, and you get a similar result as exposing your skin to the same.

Wrap your hair with silk or a silk-like material as often as is practical for you. Use any viable hair moisturizer (organic oils, butters, or conditioner). However, water alone is the best conditioner and detangler combined with your naturally produced oils. The problem is if the water is loaded with harsh chemicals.

Do not use a relaxer. All that does is make your hair dry, flat, and unattractive (like white people).

It's the number 3 that I do a lot. I have comb in my car, and office. I comb anytime I observe scattered or rough hair. Meanwhile, am not so fashion conscious like that.

i don't hate my mother like he has openly done on this forum. Maybe you should ask him how i knew about his hatred for his mother. If he didn't display it ,i certainly would not have known would i?

So you too should tell is your own tale of why you have a bone to pick with women so we will know where your frustration towards anything related to women sterms from.

Explaining anything to you would mean I consider you and what you think worth the time, won't it?

its not an explanation but a way of purging that hatred. The op doesn't consider you either ,so does everyone who has ever shared their stories here. My own is stop using your frustration to comment here cos i believe the person that caused it is not here.
