I don't know what Christianity is turning into in Nigeria but one thing I know is that some of these people running churches are becoming daft by the day. I'm not going to talk about Oyedepo cos in fairness to winners chapel, you don't see their branches littering the place up and down. But I have a problem with RCCG where I worship. I attend a small local church that is few buildings away from my house and we are still struggling to build the church to look beffiting. But guess what? In December, RCCG went to plant another church on the same street. This is a street that has less than 40 buildings/houses and already has at least 3 churches on it(including 1 RCCG branch). The various streets leading to this my street also has at least 3 different branches of RCCG. These branches are never filled up on sundays and the only one that gets filled is the very small one that looks like a kiosk. When I assess the whole thing, I begin to wonder if the people responsible for doing these traded their brains for food and money. How do you keep engaging in capital projects that are not fully utilized? How do you plant a new branch of a church on a small street that has a struggling branch of the same church? These days, if you want to see people display acute stupidity, just go to the church.

Clearly, you don't understand the vision & mission statement of the church. Try and find that out, you'll gain clarity.

No mind am.
But what do you think about the unprecedented growth of winners chapel
.
"24Here is another story Jesus told: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field.
25But while everyone was asleep, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and slipped away.
26When the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the weeds also appeared.
27The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘
Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’
28‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.
So the servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
29‘No,’ he said, ‘if you pull the weeds now, you might uproot the wheat with them.
30Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters:
First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat into my barn.’”
"
- Matthew 13:24-30

It reminds me of Matthew 13:24-30 parable of the wheat and weeds above bible verses, as I think of the unprecedented growth of winners chapel and how gullible the sheeple are believing and/or expecting to find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow being sold them, lol.

Ranchhoddas:
Divine no?
C'mon nah Ranchhoddas, let's be honest nah. While a fool and his money are soon parted, a fool and his folly are not easily parted. Nothing divine in all this because they know it is easy to get money from foolish people.

There're at very bareset minimum, at least 10,000 suckers, being eyed at this year 2020.

Planting more churches and harvesting little souls, what is then the use when we expand church buildings but not Christ enough to make Nigerians see the need to serve God in truth than the need to attend church programs.

All these for what?

Offerings and tithes.

More souls perish as more churches sprouts and expands. This is not what God wants.

Better drive 10 miles to hear God's word and believe than walk 10 kilometres to just be seen attending church.

Hypocrisy every where

Extra 900 million
Read well if you must criticize. undecided undecided

I think the simple arithmetic you quoted is right.

If the extra is added to what the pastors were earning without adding 21k more churches, then it's pay increament for the pastors of the existing churches.

If extra 900million will be added salary expenses due to the 21k new churches, the arithmetic will be incorrect on one condition, and that is only if the existing pastors got salary cut.

I do agree with the man you quoted than your own post.

It seemingly isnt very easy to discern between a wheat and tares, mainly because not only that they look much like wheat in its early stages of growth, but that they actually look very similar to an inexperienced eye, lol.

The tares are "audio" wheat, it is also known as false grain. They are yellow, and truly, not only look beautiful, but to the untrained eye, look like wheat. As I previously have said, it is easy to tell the difference between the wheat and tare because wheat is longer, bigger and stronger, while tare is shorter, medium sized and weaker. Wheat seeds are used to make flour and other edidle food products for human consumption, while tare is used for having green lushful garden lawns, football pitches etcetera and also importantly used, as pasture, suitable for grazing animals, especially cattle, lambs or sheep, as food to eat. Tares, cant by the way, be used for any sort of human food consumption

Another noteworthy feature of tares, is that they are proud, and this is why the plant always stands tall, while wheat is humble and so why wheat plants are seen bowed over

With all this story about wheat and tares that I've given, if anyone now looks close and long enough, it becomes easy to spot them and their difference(s) lol.

You know this is not true Ranchhoddas.

Please tell me which country is the 2018 “poverty capital of the world”. The prediction is that, if it is unable to change its current trajectory, it will be home to 110 million people living in extreme poverty by the year 2030.

The education you need and instead of proof-texting with Zechariah 1:17, is to please tell desiredhome and MuttleyLaff, which country is the 2018 “poverty capital of the world”. Are you aware of the prediction that, if it is unable to change its current trajectory, it will be home to 110 million people living in extreme poverty by the year 2030.

Another thing is, honestly tell, if 50% of congregation of Winners Chapel can afford to send their children to the three universities and counting, hhm?

How is it anybody fault if some people refuse to follow the covenant prosperity principles as taught by Oyedepo?
If the wider Nigeria follows Oyedepo's way of doing things; hardwork, discipine, sacrifice, IINTEGRITY, don't you think the country would have made far more progress than it has now.

Do you know that winners chapel has been using uninterrupted power since 1989?
If our power managers have been taking lessons for the past 30 years from Oyedepo, don't you think we would have solved our power problems?

Grand deceit.

But the bible has said it in the book of the act of apostle.

The first church after the enduement of power on the day of Pentecost was not a church measured by materialism.

The early church knew Jesus didn't send those he preached to home hungry. Let them sit down and he offered them food. They continued in it because it was an integral part of why church starts.

Then, the seven deacons were chosen for the welfare of the people.

It was a church built on unity, love and no one lack because everyone has things in common.

Those who has not don't even feel they don't because those who have shared with them benevolently.

Welfare was important in the early church (post Pentecostal church).

No matter how we argue here, those who know the truth of the gospel will see clearly lots that are wrong with the prosperity seeking churches.

I got born again before joining winners. I joined because of the influence of my brother I lived with.

So many times I don't believe in some of the teachings being unbiblical.

Even some prayer points cursing the leaders of our nation since 2014 because he doesn't like the person, I never prayed such. At most I speak in tongues for the period.
A bishop who can call the pastor's meeting in 2014 and opened his mouth that pastors should curse Buhari for him, I marvelled at what that means.
May we never run into Balaam's error.

A church who doctored university account to pay less tax to Ogun State?

God deliver your church from merchants.

Read below.

But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a noted religious professor who was highly respected by all, stood up. He gave orders to send the apostles outside. Then he said to the council, “Men of Israel, you need to be very careful about how you deal with these men. Some time ago there was a man named Theudas who rose up claiming to be somebody. He had a following of about four hundred men, but when he was killed, all of his followers were scattered, and nothing came of it. “After him, in the days of the census, another man rose up, Judas the Galilean, who got people to follow him in a revolt. He too perished, and all those who followed him were scattered. So in this situation, you should just leave these men to themselves. For if this plan or undertaking originates with men, it will fade away and come to nothing. But if this movement is of God, you won’t be able to stop it. And you might discover that you were fighting God all along!” Gamaliel’s words convinced the council.

grandiose4ever:
I had a thought recently about the Nigerian religious space and economy and I feel sad that Nigeria is not exploiting the benefits of christianedom enough.

One can choose to look Churches from two angles as a govt. A charity or special subset of the service sector - in most cases it should be viewed as Charity. In some other cases it can help if viewed as a service. As a charity it should be tax free, as a service it should pay taxes(5% - 10%) and improve economy.

Since Churches seem to have very strong liquidity and cash flow from foreign countries - they can be encouraged to venture into other areas of the economy.

Case study: when govt liberated higher education and allowed new entrants. Winners Chapel obtained a license in 2002 for Covenant and within 20 years overtook Nigeria's first University of Ibadan founded in 1945.

I have a feeling if they ventured into healthcare and other sectors they would equally succeed.

If Bishop Oyedepo I know is given the mandate to give Nigeria stable power he will achieve it in no time. The bishop is a goal getter. Whatever he plans to do he achieves it and even more. This men walk and work directly with the holy spirit for excellence. So you are very right.

There is nothing like covenant prosperity principles, as taught by Oyedepo. It is a sham, all na wash. Please Ranchhoddas, tell me what director or CEO of any company has Oyedepo ever being, lol?

My guy, abeggy, no one is shifting any goal post anywhere, the truth be told, Oyedepo is prospering on the back of the sweat, tears, blood and guts of suckers, dangling a carrot, tied to a stick, and stretched out in from of them, lol. It is Oyedepo plc, that is prospering, and if we are not going to deceive ourselves Ranchhoddas, we would admit that not even up to 5-10% of Winners Chapel's congregation are really and truly prospering. That percentage is me, just being kind and generous

So what, if using uninterrupted power since 1989. It only indicates, Oyedepo is a good at managing and/or using other people's resources so far there's is personal and/or lucrative financial benefit in it for him.

The lesson to learn is from the first republic, where and when the best civil service in African was from the Western region of Nigeria. There was free education from primary up to tertiary level. There was free health care and were pipe borne water. I grew up with water from the water corporation coming out of our taps. Sadly not anymore. I experienced 24 hours uninterrupted power/light/electricity when growing up before it turned epileptic and then total darkness
